ROOF WINDOWS

GRANT SNEDDON, PRODUCT MANAGER AT VELUX, ANSWERS TWO OF THE MOST COMMON HOME IMPROVEMENT QUESTIONS FROM CONTRACTORS... Give your clients the illusion of spacewith ‘smart’ roof windows

S pring is a traditional time for homeowners to rethink how they’ve been using their homes. This is especially so at the moment. Spaces that were once used solely for cooking, relaxing and sleeping now need to have second functions such as office spaces, playrooms and home gyms. One way to address issues with multi- functional spaces that might not be working as well as they should is to consider a home renovation, such as single-storey extensions or loft conversions. These are two of the easier and more practical ways that homeowners can extend their existing properties, without taking on the stress and hassle of committing to moving. There are two common questions from contractors who are helping their customers plan such projects - especially when they look for guidance when it comes to demonstrating the positive impact extra daylight and fresh air from roof windows can have on new rooms: HOW CAN YOU CREATE MORE SPACE IN YOUR CUSTOMER’S PROJECT? The simplest way to help create the illusion of space in a project is to ensure that there’s a good supply of natural daylight coming in. If your customers are considering a new extension or loft conversion we recommend that glazing represents 15-20% of available floor space to ensure that the finished room feels bright and airy, and this can be easily achieved with VELUX roof windows. There are some useful tools on the VELUX website which will help you show homeowners the difference that two, three or four roof windows will make to an extension or loft conversion. We find it is most impactful when homeowners can see the increased daylight potential themselves before their project starts.

HOW CAN YOU IMPROVE YOUR CUSTOMER’S INDOOR ENVIRONMENT? VELUX ACTIVE with NETATMO uses smart-sensor technology, which lets homeowners manage roof windows from their smartphone. The smart sensors monitor temperature, humidity and CO2 concentration inside the home and the system opens and closes roof windows accordingly to improve homeowners’ indoor climate. The easy-to-fit ACTIVE system works with electric and solar powered VELUX INTEGRA® roof windows – well suited for customers who are looking to create healthier indoor environments for themselves and their families.
