The law has to also be taken into consideration there are multiple different types of people and some of their desires can be seen as a crime due to its pain inflicting nature. So far it can be assumed that desires can be seen as wrong due to its ability to the take people to lengths at which they could possibly do physical harm to either themselves or others. However this is all based off someone’s interpretation of what is right and what is wrong, if someone thinks they are right and the other thinks they are right who decides who is right or wrong? Therefore the church can be seen as a powerful force as it provides a framework by which people can lead lives through faith as oppose to desires, despite this it can be argued that through these laws, or in the church case restrictions on sin, people can become trapped with the fear of damnation used to manipulate communities to act in the churches favour as oppose to furthering themselves through the pursuit of pleasure from desires. However if my argument was flipped and it was that a desire is right how can I convince the 3 rd party, this being the hardest group to help understand moral decisions and judgements. Well I could force multiple situations that would stimulate a general fondness towards a certain desire. For example I could have a benevolent desire such as wanting to make everyone I meet smile. If I were to tell you that it is my desire to give you £100 would you say this desire is wrong? After asking this to say 100 people I would have enough results to prove that a desire can be right. But then I can’t help thinking about those people who believe that my generous desire is wrong. Because this would be down to their beliefs/likes/dislikes which is another barrier into deciding whether or not I can prove a desire to be right or wrong, because the essence of liking an idea/desire is based off what exactly we are deciding to neglect or not think about. So if I were to be giving £100 in order to fulfil my desire I would be neglecting my financial situation, such neglect for financial status could be seen as bizarre to someone who cares very much for financial stability. Ultimately though I believe that having a desire/an undying want cannot be wrong, it can be illegal but not wrong. Desire is a simple part of human nature much like a feeling. One cannot say being happy or being sad is right or wrong they are just human processes which must happen. Much like the price mechanism in economics if the price is low then the consumer would have the feeling to purchase more it’s a human impulse. Of course there are ways to prove how desire could be either right or wrong as I have already said before but it would be hard to conduct because this answer would change between locations around the world, class groupings and authorial status.
