a certain Batman comic does very well, in order to do another print run, you would need to print a lot less Superman comics ( I am simply using Batman and Superman as examples, it could be any two comics). This in turn may mean that the Superman comic needs a re-print, so less of the next Batman are printed, to compensate. This is why second or third print runs do not happen very often. Furthermore, it is rare if a comic has any re-prints at all. The comic I mentioned that had the 2000% increase has recently been re-printed, but even the reprint’s second hand prices are still astronomically high, even for the re-prints. Second print runs are considered less valuable then primary print runs, and if it gets to it, tertiary print runs are considered less valuable than secondary print runs. However, each time a print run occurs, it impedes on other comics, meaning that those comics suffer. And for every comic that is impeded by a secondary print run, the creators of that comic suffer. When a writer and artist collaborate to make a comic, they also need the help of a colourer, as some artists are good at drawing but not good at colouring in. They also may need a letterer, to draw the letters in. No, I am not joking. Immediately this means that the profit is split four ways. Say that they are selling their comics through one of the “Big Two”: Marvel and DC. That splits the profit 5 ways. Considering the average price for a comic is around £2 to £3 pounds, this is an interesting split. Let us say, for argument’s sake, that a comic sells at a shop for £2.50. This means that 50% of the profit goes to the shop owner, and the rest goes back to the publisher to distribute between the
