THOMAS CONVINCED-John 20: 19-31

Outline: (1) The Gladdened Disciples, vs. 19, 20. (2) The Commission Delivered, vs. 21, 22. ( 3) The Apostle of Doubt, vs. 24, 25. ( 4) The Confession of Deity, vs. 26-31. Introduction: The risen Lord had been busy mani– festing Himself,-first, to Mary Mag– dalene; next, to the other two women; then, to Peter alone; afterwards, to two humble disciples; last of all, to the as– sembly of disciples and others. (1) THE GLADDENED DISCIPLES, vs. 19, 20 "Then were the dis– ciples glad when they saw the Lord." v. 20. In the upper room where they had partaken of the last supper with the closed doors, "for fear of the Jews." No closed doors, for fear of the Jews." No doubt they were conversing together regarding the strange incidents of the past week, listening to the stories of those who had seen Him, when-sud– denly-He was In their midst, with the salutation "Peace be unto you." This was the customary salutation among the Jews, but from the lips of Jesus now it had a far deeper significance. He had secured peace for them (Col. 1:20) "And having made peace through the blood of bis cross, by hbn to reconcile all things unto himself." and had come to bestow It upon them. They were dazed and uncomprehend– ing, and He showed l.\nto them His hands and His side (v. 20)
