It is a religious history. It omits details in its account of other nations and concentrates on the nation from which the promised Redeemer is to spring. The author of the Book of Genesis is Moses. Though this is disputed by the critics, yet it was believed by the Jews and attested by Jesus. The period of time covered by the Book of Genesis is about 2300 years,- 2000 of which has no other written history. The key verse of the book is 1: 1, and the key thought is that of God's rem– edy for man's sin. Some of the names of God in Genesis are God (Elohim-Creator); Lord (Je– hovah- Covenant); God Almighty (El Shaddai-All-Sufficient One); Lord (Adonii-Master-Owner). Three great subjects of the book.– God, nature, man. It denies Atheism, -one God exists; polytheism,--0ne God creates; materialism (eternity of matter) ,-God made; pantheism (all is God, found in Theosophy, Christian Science, New Thought) ,-God is apart; fatalism (whatever is, is right) ,-God acts according to His own will; agnosti– cism (don't know) ,-God reveals; uni– tarianism (one God) ,-the Trinity.

The term man as used here is a gen– eric term, including both male and fe– male. It takes both man and woman to constitute the perfect image of God. Hence we have given us the figure of union between Christ and His church, constituting one complete man (Eph. 1:22, 23). Tlw Partner God gave to Man, vs. 21-24. The last of God's creative works and the best was woman,-the glory of the man (1 Cor. 11: 7) . Man is the head of creation, but woman is the crown. The woman was not formed of the dust, but of man-out of man ( 2: 21); not, says Matthew Henry, from his head-to rule; or from his feet– to be trampled upon by him; but from 'his side, to be equal with him; under his arm, to be protected; near his heart, to be loved." Not his guide, nor ruler, nor slave, -but his companion and counsellor. The woman was presented by God to man,-the first marriage ceremony was performed by God Himself. Unless God brings together,- woe to the man and woman who live in that relation– ship! · 'l1he Perfection of Creation. "God saw that it was good." v. 10. Seven times in this account of the creation is this expression used. It was also great ( Psa. 111: 2) ; marvel– lous (Rev. 15:3); perfect (Deut. 32: 4). ~ SUGGESTIVE COMMENT T. C. Horton Genesis is a book of. beginnings. It gives us the history of the creation and birth of the universe and of history. It presents, also, the beginning of the revelation of God to man and the germ of every truth (directly or indirectly) and every relationship afterward de– veloped in the Word. In it are found the beginnings of cre– ation, the human race, marriage, the family, the state, the church, the na-
