From Side Hustle to Full-Time Vision EM Builders’ journey began almost a decade ago, born from a side project while Dustin worked a full-time job outside the construction industry. Initially flipping foreclosed homes, Dustin and his wife found joy in revitalizing spaces, but the diminishing inventory of profitable properties after the 2008 housing market crash pushed them toward new construction. “I thought I’d build a couple of houses a year and sell them while keeping my full- time job,” Dustin recalls. However, the soaring demand during the COVID-19 housing boom quickly transformed EM Builders into something more substantial. What began as spec homes—houses built without a buyer in mind—evolved into custom homes as buyers increasingly requested personal touches.
