“I’d get a house halfway done, and someone would buy it. Then they’d want to pick out floors, paint colors, and fixtures,” Dustin explains. “Before I knew it, I had six houses going while still working my full-time job. Something had to give.” In 2021, Dustin made the leap, leaving his job of 14 years to focus solely on EM Builders. Today, the company specializes in creating bespoke homes tailored to the unique visions of its clients. The Custom Difference For EM Builders, the transition from spec houses to custom homes wasn’t just a business decision—it was a creative calling. “Spec homes are about volume and cost- efficiency, but that approach never appealed to me,” Dustin explains. “I love the design process, and custom building allows me to create unique spaces with features clients dream about.” Unlike cookie-cutter homes churned out by some builders, EM Builders embraces individuality. Dustin works closely with clients to incorporate their ideas, whether inspired by Pinterest boards or personal preferences. “People now see trends from all over—California, Dallas, you name it. They bring these ideas to me, and my job is to make them a reality, even on a budget.” One example Dustin highlights is reimagining high-end design elements like concrete fireplace surrounds. Instead of costly precast concrete, EM Builders framed and plastered a surround that achieved the same aesthetic at a fraction of the cost. “It’s about being creative. You don’t have to spend a fortune to have beautiful, high-quality features in your home,” he says.
