Klaus Hebben’s vision for holistic education took shape as he purchased an old rubber plantation in Phuket, laying the foundation for a school that would integrate mindfulness, social and emotional learning, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum.
Phuket International Academy (PIA) opened its doors with eight students, three teachers, and four administrative staff, marking the start of a transformative educational journey.
Achieved IB PYP authorisation, establishing a strong framework for inquiry-based learning. PIA also became a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), reinforcing its commitment to international standards.
PIA achieved full IB continuum authorisation for the MYP and DP, earning recognition as “excellent” by the Thai Ministry of Education. Boarding facilities were introduced, welcoming a diverse, global student body and enriching the school’s
PIA officially became UWC Thailand, joining the UWC movement as its 16th member. Her Majesty Queen school, welcoming the first cohort of UWC National Committee students to campus. Noor of Jordan inaugurated the
intercultural community.
