UWC THAILAND
STEADY AT THE HELM
Project Independence and the Power of Collective Purpose
In 2019, UWC Thailand stood on uncertain ground. The school’s future—rooted in its mission to make education a force for peace and a sustainable future—was under threat. Financial instability loomed, and the possibility of closure was real. But rather than turn away, our community stepped forward. Parents, staff, alumni, and friends made a choice: they would not let this mission fade. They would not let the values that brought us together—compassion, courage, intercultural understanding—become a memory. And so, Project Independence was born. More than a financial plan, Project Independence was a declaration of belief. Families offered personal loans. Alumni lent their voices in support. Conversations turned into commitments. One by one, community members stepped in—not because they had to, but because they believed UWC Thailand must exist.
They believed in our students. They believed in the future. They believed that this school mattered.
