Embry-Riddle Response to Amazon RFP - FINAL

5) Corporate Partnerships that Work As an example of our highly customized solutions for business, Embry-Riddle’s Worldwide Campus has teamed up with Microsoft to provide a full-time, 18-week software and systems- training program to military bases. The program encompasses a solid theoretical foundation that incorporates practical, hands-on exercises, virtual labs, and certification testing to prepare students for IT jobs. Successful completion of the program offers a pathway toward Microsoft certification, 15 credit hours toward an associate or bachelor’s degree in Technical Management, and a job interview with Microsoft. The Microsoft Software & Systems Academy (MSSA) is open to military service members who are within six months of separation as well as veterans who recently transitioned from the military. Students such as Robert Beare – a 23-year member of the U.S. Army and a current cloud support associate for Amazon Web Services – are pursuing post-military careers, thanks to the MSSA program. “I had access to Microsoft labs and software I wouldn’t normally have access to, so I took advantage of it,” Beare said. After meeting an Amazon recruiter, Beare submitted his resume to Amazon Web Services, where he began work in January 2016. Amazon’s focus on supporting the military community – through groups such as “Amazon Warriors” and the presence of many former service members within the company’s workforce – has been a big plus in his new career, Beare said. To date, 213 students have successfully completed the MSSA program, which is helping Microsoft and its IT partners promote diversity while hiring transitioning military service members. Another 140 students are now enrolled in the program. Some 200 companies – including Amazon – have partnered with Microsoft to hire MSSA graduates.
