CLINICAL TOPICS

Timeless Smiles – Guidelines for Performing Functionally Driven Esthetic Dentistry Cosmetic Dentistry can be one of the most rewarding procedures that we deliver for both our patients and ourselves. But often the treatment plan is to simply deliver whiter and longer porcelain restorations to achieve the desired results. This can have serious consequences when there is a lack of focus on the functional requirements needed for longevity and the micro-esthetics to achieve a beautiful natural smile. The goals of this presentation are to go through the research on smile design with guidelines on treatment planning, making conservative tooth preparations and temporaries. Delivery of the final restorations along with occlusal equilibration to complete treatment will also be discussed. Learning Objectives: • Smile Design — A look at all the parameters required to maximize the esthetics and create a natural beautiful final result. • Functional Goals — A look at how to create a smile that will be functionally driven to minimize stress on the restored teeth and the masticatory system. • Lab Communication and Final Delivery — We will look specific criteria for both writing a detailed lab script and for delivering the final restorations. The Top 5 Things to Ponder in Oral Surgery and Implants as a New Dentist In this session, a variety of topics will be covered that are both specific to oral surgery and dental implants as well as more generalized regarding overall clinical practice success and considerations. Topics such as general implant treatment planning for patients and the role of digital technology, how we should advise patients regarding their care, factors to consider when deciding whether to treat or refer patients, and optimal timing to assess and intervene regarding impacted teeth. In addition, this lecture is replete with advice from years of experience of seeing what works and what doesn’t in clinical practice. Surgical tidbits will also be reviewed to ensure clinicians are up to date with best practices. Learning Objectives: • To understand a general framework for implant treatment planning and how digital technology assists with diagnosis. • To learn about our role as dentists to review and deliver appropriate care for patients. • Factors to consider in order to minimize complications in practice.
