Biola Broadcaster - 1964-10

passerby asked, “Why is it that you continue to do so? Why don’t you just take whatever direction comes the first time?” The gypsy responded brightly, “Well, you see, every time I throw it up, it points in that direc tion oyer there but I want to go that way instead.” Hoio often this is like the Christian who has to learn per haps in a difficult way, that when God directs in the matter, He is doing it for our best. Biola students realize that God may call them to the mission field or to the public school room, or to some church or service, and the challenge of Scripture is, “Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and he shall direct thy paths.” * * * If there were more praise offered for prayers answered there would be more pray ers answered for which to offer praise. The best* thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time. * * * FAULT FINDING One of the greatest dangers in a Christian’s life is that, as he grows older, he does not always necessarily grow more spiritually mature. Some years ago a well-known preacher wrote a tract which was greatly blessed of the Holy Spirit. I t was appropriately titled, “Come to Jesus.” By the means of this little printed evangel many people found Christ as Saviour. But in his later years, the preacher be came sarcastic and would frequently write cutting articles and critical let ters. One time he became engaged in a theological dispute and prepared a scorching manuscript denouncing a brother in Christ. Showing his work to a friend, he asked after he had read it, “What do you think I should call this? I haven’t been able to make up my mind.” His friend thought for a moment, reflecting on th e man’s earlier tract, written in love and a blessing around the world. He spoke kindly but firmly, “Why don’t you title it, ‘Go to the Devil’ by the author of ‘Come to Jesus.’ ” What a sad paradox in this suggestion. How foolish it is for us to criticise others. In God’s Word we read, “Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and curs ing, my brethren, these things ought not so to be” (James 3:10). The people who boast of having an open mind are usually talking about that which is really merely blank space. * * « A WAY OF KNOWING A gypsy was seen at a crossroads one day throwing a stick up into the air. She repeated this for a number of times until a passerby asked what she was doing. Her response was that by throwing the stick up into the air whichever way it pointed when it landed, she would go in that direction. This seemed to be typical of such a wandering pathway of life but the

If you have just moved, or are planning to do so, you know all that is involved. But did you realize that your move can also cost the Lord's work? If you have moved and have not as yet informed us, from now on it will cost Biola 8 cents (rather than 4) in order to have the post office give us the in formation concerning your new address. If you use a post card, or the forms provided by the post office, this will mean a sub stantial savings for the work of the Lord. With a quarter of the population moving every year, according to statistics, you can well imagine what this will ulti mately mean for Biola. Thank you for your prayer ful help in this, as well as in our other ministries for the Lord Jesus Christ.
