SIDEWALK CLOSURES Champlain Township public works is pre- paring its winter road maintenance plan for the municipality, including temporary closure of some sections of sidewalk in Vankleek Hill. The reasons for the closures are because the sidewalk plow is not able to get to them for snow removal or because they are used as snow storage from plowing operation. The sidewalk closure rule from Novem- ber 1, 2019, to April 30, 2020, applies to sections of Stanley Street, Jay Street, and Bertha Street.– Gregg Chamberlain SNOWPLOW PURCHASE Just in time for the first early snows of winter to arrive, East Hawkesbury Township council approved a recom- mendation, from administration, to use the municipal modernization fund to buy a new 2019 model Freightliner snowplow. The township will allocate up to $160,000 towards the purchase. – Gregg Chamberlain BUDGET SCHEDULE Champlain Township Council has two long days of budget planning review to do before the end of the year. Council members agreed to schedule reviews of the 2020 draft budget for December 11 and 19, starting at 1 p.m. both days. If needed, a third review session will take place in January. The goal is to have the final budget ready for approval before next spring.– Gregg Chamberlain
Le conseil municipal de Hawkesbury a priorisé la réparation d’une partie du mur de soutènement de la rue McGill, le long du ruisseau Hawkesbury. Un rapport géotechnique, publié le mois dernier par Stantec Consulting Ltd., recommandait de réparer ou de remplacer la section du mur de soutènement au cours des deux prochaines années. Le cout des travaux est estimé à environ 900 000$, mais il ne fait pas partie du projet de budget initial pour 2020 ni du calendrier décennal de remplacement des infrastructures municipales. L’administration et le service des Travaux publics recommandent de faire une demande d’aide financière auprès du programme Routes de raccordement aux routes principales, puisque le tronçon du mur de soutènement concerné est situé près de l’intersection de la rue Main et de la rue McGill. Il s’agit d’une artère importante pour la ville, où circulent des camions commerciaux lourds et d’autres véhicules. Le rapport de Stantec indique que la section du mur de soutènement concernée montre des signes d’instabilité qui pourrait poser des problèmes dans l’avenir si aucune réparation n’est effectuée.
