Automatic irrigation

Your irrigation project

This guide helps you create your own irrigation plan and take all necessary factors into account.

Step 1

Determine the pressure and flow rate of your water connection. Pressure Measured in bar. The water pressure can be read using a manometer connected to your water outlet. If you do not have a manometer, you can ask your local water utility for the water pressure* or request assistance from your plumber. For proper system operation, you need at least 2.5 bar. If your water pressure is higher than 5 bar, you will need a pressure reducer. Flow rate Specified in cubic meters per hour (m³/h) and can be found in the documents from your local water utility. You can also measure it yourself: Fill a 10-liter water bucket from the tap closest to your water outlet and check how many seconds it takes to fill the bucket. Your irrigation specialist can also calculate the flow rate for you. For proper operation, your system must have a minimum flow rate of 1.5 m³/h.

* If you are using a pump, refer to the technical specifications, which indicate the pressure depending on the available flow rate.

Glossary: Pressure : Force exerted by the water on a defined surface. Flow rate : Amount of water delivered within a specific period of time.

Calculation of the flow rate Volume (liters) Time (seconds) × 3.6 = Flow rate in m³/h

In our example, the bucket with 10 liters is filled in 12 seconds. Using the above formula, this results in: 10 ÷ 12 × 3.6 = 3 m³/hour.
