Colbert Packaging Adds Capacity With New Converting Equipment Kenosha, Wisconsin based paperboard packaging man- ufacturer Colbert Packaging Corporation has expanded capacity for pharmaceutical and consumer customers with the purchase of three new pieces of G&K-Vijuk equipment: an outsert folding system (MV-11 and MV-X10); a flat pile feeder; and a tabber (Sigma). Colbert Packaging is one of less than 20 companies in North America authorized to use G&K-Vijuk patented systems. Today’s high speed packaging lines require an out- sert solution that won’t jam up and interrupt production. G&K-Vijuk outsert folding systems are for the production of RTA (right-turn-angle) cross-folded outserts. Outserts, which have become the standard for providing informa- tion in the pharmaceutical industry, are leaflets that are folded to a small size and secured to form closed leaflets which will not spring open during packaging operations or while affixed directly onto product containers. The tabber complements Colbert’s secondary packaging capabilities, bringing more specialty packaging functions under one roof, an benefit to stringent customer audit requirements. “Specialty folds are important to our pharma custom- ers, and the new Vijuk machinery will enable us to more efficiently increase our volume,” said Kenosha Production Manager, Pat Gibbons. G&K–Vijuk International Corporation, with over 30 pat- ents worldwide, is an industry leader in providing insert/ outsert leaflet folding equipment for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and small-items packaging markets. “Pharmaceutical packaging, with its complex folds and specifications, is in greater demand than ever before,” said G&K-Vijuk Sales Manager Kevin Boivin. “Some com- panies have taken a ‘wait and see’ posture regarding cap- ital equipment investments in 2021, whereas Colbert took a calculated, aggressive approach.” He added, “As a fami- ly-owned corporation, they can be more nimble when the time is right.” In response to escalating customer demand, these and other recent equipment acquisitions have increased man- ufacturing capacity for Colbert’s Kenosha and Elkhart, Indi- ana locations, all the while maintaining quality assurance. Colbert now offers 100 percent vision inspection capabil- ities, enabling defect detection without affecting the pro- duction run, an important distinction for pharmaceutical and consumer paperboard packaging customers. “When customers visit,” Gibbons continued, “the first comment we get is usually about how immaculate our fa- cilities are, and second, how new the equipment looks.
