Labor Day — it falls on the first Monday every September and is a day designated to celebrate the social and economic achievements of American workers. In honor of Labor Day, I want to shout out my team here at Campbell Wealth Management. Over the years, I think we have assembled an incredible team of very resourceful, compassionate, and talented individuals. I know I can count on my team to take care of our clients day in and day out — I watch them do it all the time! So, thank you to my dedicated team for all of the hard work you put in for our clients. Next, I want to shout out all of you for the hard work and contributions you have all made — this is what this country was built on. Did you know that on average, the American worker will put in over 90,000 hours of work before they
retire? While some of you have already exceeded those numbers, many of you are pretty close as you prepare to experience a great retirement. So, with that, I want to congratulate you and let you know your hard work is paying off! For many, Labor Day signals the end of summer, and to different people, this can mean a variety of different things. I know that for my wife, Kim, and myself, it signifies both a beginning and an end. We have two children who graduated and are moving on to new endeavors and one other child who is still in the middle of his college career. Connor, our lefty pitcher, just graduated from the College of Charleston, but because he is a baseball player and has had so much success, he still has one more year of eligibility. He will be starting the MBA program
and is heading off to the University of Kentucky to obtain a degree in equine management. This means that we will officially be empty nesters — woo-hoo! This is a bittersweet transition. I know that my wife is beginning to take it hard, and I’m sure that there will be many tears. For many of you, Labor Day means that you’ll be taking on some new projects at work, planning a vacation, or just doing business as usual. But, no matter what, it signifies that we have four more months left in 2023 — this gives us a deadline. Oftentimes, when we have a deadline, a fire is lit and we get more done. So, now is the time to get out your 2023 goal list that you put together at the end of last year and start checking boxes. Maybe you have a home renovation project that is still in the works, an exercise plan that hasn’t gone as well as you’d planned, or you’d like to learn a new language or make time for a hobby. Possibly you’d like to brush up on your social media skills or figure out how to navigate this new AI (artificial intelligence) tool. Whatever it is, this is a great time to wrap up your goals. So, here’s to a great rest of 2023. I wish you a great fall and winter!
and continuing to play baseball for the College of Charleston. We are thrilled to still be able to enjoy watching spring and summer baseball! Carter has been doing exceptionally well and is about to start his last year at Radford University. He will complete his business degree and is really excited to do something that will set him up for success in starting his own business — he wants to follow in his parents’ footsteps.

Understand the 4 Phases of Retirement MAXIMIZE YOUR GOLDEN YEARS:
Trial and Error This phase is all about trying to make your life more meaningful. Often, the best path forward is to invest more time into your favorite activities. Be warned that many of these activities will have lost their luster, causing you to experience some trial and error. Don’t give up! Something will click to give you purpose, propelling you into
Leading up to your golden years, you’ll receive plenty of financial advice on preparing for retirement. You want to ensure you have enough money to last the duration of your retirement and maybe still have something left in your estate. This is incredibly important, but there’s more to retirement than simply saving your money and waiting. Author and speaker Dr. Riley Moynes has contemplated the psychological challenges that retirees face and determined that there are four distinct phases of retirement. Understanding these phases and preparing for their challenges will help you maximize your retirement. Vacation This phase is exactly what it sounds like. You’ll feel like you’re on vacation 24/7.
You wake up when you want, sleep when you want, and do whatever your heart desires throughout each day. We’re free from responsibilities and can enjoy each moment as it comes, but many people grow bored of this stage after the first year of retirement. We begin to miss our routine and question if there’s anything more to retirement. Loss This second stage begins when we start to feel like we’ve lost who we are. We lose our routine, our identity, many of the relationships we’ve built, a sense of purpose, and for some, a feeling of power. This is also the stage where retirees can face divorce, depression, and physical and mental decline. It can be traumatic when you don’t see these losses coming, but this phase doesn’t last forever.
phase four. Reinvent
Not everyone will make it to this stage. To get here, you must ask yourself, “What’s my mission in retirement?” Maybe you want to serve others by volunteering with a charity, or perhaps you simply want to improve your golf game. Finding that purpose and reinventing yourself around it will bring you more happiness during your golden years.
5 RETIREMENT HACKS FOR A COMFORTABLE FUTURE
Find a new routine. Once you enter retirement, your life gets shaken up. So, replace your old routines with new ones — the worst thing you can do for your mental health is to go from having a set routine to no routine at all! Step outside of your comfort zone. Finding new boundaries in retirement is a great way to find a new zest for life. Try new recipes, embrace new hobbies, explore new areas, and make new friends! Find that excitement! Retirement will be some of the best years of your life — it just requires some careful planning and execution to make the most of it without worry or stress! Here’s to you!
Your retirement should be filled with fun, rest, relaxation, and positivity. If you aren’t already, you should be focusing your attention on making the most of your newfound free time and embracing all that you love and value. To help you achieve a successful retirement with minimal stress or financial burdens, here are some life hacks you may find helpful! Wind down slowly. If you have already entered retirement or are planning to make the transition soon, easing slowly off your workload and out of your career can help reduce the shock and get you used to finding other ways to fill your time. Consider downsizing. To simplify your life and reduce costs, downsizing your home is a great option. You
can consider relocating to a smaller home, apartment, or condominium. The best part about moving
is that it forces you to go through your belongings and decide what you need, what can be
given away, and what can be tossed to help you declutter. Fuel your body properly. In retirement, it’s important to eat well, especially if you frequently snacked throughout your career. With the extra time available, explore some new healthy options and cooking styles. There’s nothing more important than properly fueling your body to ensure you can thoroughly enjoy your golden years.

How a WWII Cat Survived 3 Ship Sinkings: The Story of Unsinkable Sam
The British destroyer HMS Cossack found Sam floating on a board hours later, and they promptly scooped him up and welcomed him aboard. Sam had officially switched sides to the Allied forces.
servicemen saved in 1939 — was the only survivor of HMS Cossack, earning him the nickname “Unsinkable Sam.” The group in Gibraltar was from the HMS Ark Royal crew, and of course, they loaded Sam aboard when it was time to launch. But as Sam’s luck would have it, a torpedo struck the HMS Ark Royal just a month later, leaving him once again clinging to a floating plank near a boat launch back in Gibraltar. Luckily, Sam’s boating days were over, and he was honorably transferred to the position of “mouse hunter” in the building of the governor-general in Gibraltar. Eventually, the British restationed their favorite floating feline to a “home for sailors” in Belfast, where he lived for the rest of his days until his peaceful passing in 1955.
You’ve heard the saying, “Cats have nine lives,” and while there are countless tales of cats falling from trees or high-above windows, one cat put this theory to the test, earning himself the name “Unsinkable Sam.”
Now on the right side of history, Sam lived with the British crew for the next few months as they performed convoy escort duties — until a torpedo struck the HMS Cossack in October 1941, killing all 139 members aboard. Except for Sam. Once again, Sam clung to a wooden plank and floated safely to the nearby shore of Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory. British service members who

after engaged in battle with The Prince of Wales, an Allied battleship. The Nazi ship was severely damaged in this battle and ultimately sunk. Only 118 of the 2,200 crew members survived, plus Sam.
Sam’s story may not officially prove cats have nine lives, but it makes at least three seem likely!

Keep Yourself Safe While Traveling Alone
Traveling alone can be a memorable and adventurous experience — it’s a great way to step outside your comfort zone and continue learning about yourself. While solo travel is chock-full of exciting perks, staying alone in a hotel can be dangerous if you aren’t careful to take certain safety precautions. The next time you take a trip by yourself, keep these tips in mind! Check in the smart way. When you check in to your hotel, always ask for two room keys — this way, hotel staff and anyone else in earshot will automatically assume someone else is traveling with you. If they ask how many guests will be staying with you, don’t admit you are alone. If you have the option, request a room that isn’t on the ground floor, as research shows they are the easiest to break into! Inspect your room. As soon as you enter the room, make a quick sweep to ensure no one is present in closets, in
the shower, or under the bed and that nothing appears to be amiss. It’s always best to be safe rather than sorry! Keep your eyes peeled. Any time you leave your room, even if it’s just to scope out the vending machines, be alert for anyone watching or following you, and always keep your room number discreet. If you ever feel like someone is following you, get off on a different floor and avoid going to your room.
Use the deadbolt. If the door in your room comes equipped with a deadbolt, use it! This extra safety measure keeps even those with a key from entering your room without your knowing! Share the hotel information. Let your family and friends know where you are staying! Provide them with the hotel
name, address, and phone number in case an emergency arises!
Traveling solo is a thrilling experience, but it comes with some extra steps to stay safe! Trust your instincts and use these tips to ensure your trip goes down in the memory books as safe and exciting!
