"blessed” means the same as to be happy. When something unpleasant happens to you, probably you run to Mother, and she puts her arms around you and comforts you until you are all glad again inside. How wonderful it would be to have the Lord Jesus com fort you just like that! It would be worth being sad, in order to be com forted. Jesus told the disciples many other ways in which He could make them happy, but the last one seems the strangest of all. "Blessed are ye,” He told them, “when men shall revile you . . . for my sake” (v. 11). What did He mean ? Perhaps we may answer by asking two other questions. Did your playmates ever laugh at you and say unkind things about you, just because you loved the Lord Jesus and refused to do the wrong things that children do who are not Christians? And didn’t you feel specially happy then, when you remembered that the Lord Jesus would have a reward for you in heaven, be cause it was for His sake that you had answered bravely? • The Lord Jesus said that any one can be “great in the kingdom of heaven” by doing what He tells him to do. Even a child can obey Jesus. You can begin to obey Him right away by believing His Word, and by letting your light shine for Him, as He told His disciples to do, when He talked to them on the mountain long ago. Object Lesson ■T he W hite B rothers OBJECTS: Six jars, graduated In size, filled respectively with sugar, soda, starch, baking powder, flour, and salt. LESSON: I have six brothers in my bag this morning. Before introducing them, I want to remind you of the words of Christ, “Ye are the salt of the earth” (Matt. 5:13). Salt is used to keep things from spoiling. The world would be much worse than it is, were E zekiel 33:7 So thou, o son o f man, 1 have set thee a w atchm an unto the house o f Israel) therefore thou shalt hear the w ord at m y mouth, and warn them from me. 8 W hen I say unto the w icked, O w icked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to w arn the w icked from his w ay, that w icked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood w ill I require at thine hand: 9 Nevertheless, if thou warn the w icked o f his w ay to turn from it; if he do not turn from his w ay, he shall die in his iniquity: but thou hast delivered thy soul. 10 Therefore, O thou son o f man, speak unto the house o f Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, I f our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and w e pine aw ay in them , how should w e then live? 11 Say unto them , A s I live,- saith the L ord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the w ick ed : but that the w icked turn

it not for the fact that Christians are in it. Then, too, salt makes people thirsty for water. Many unsaved people become thirsty for Christ because of the life of some Christian. Here are the six boys. They are dif ferent in size, but they all have a fam ily resemblance. Bill, what does this taste like ? “ Sugar.” Yes, you are right. This is Sugar White. He is sweet, but he cannot do the thing Christ meant when He said, “Ye are the salt of the earth.” John, see whether you can tell us the name of the next brother. From the face you are making, I think this must be Soda White. Soda is good to use in cooking, but that is not what Christ meant when He spoke of "the salt of the earth.” Mary, we will let you try to name the next one. It is difficult to tell by the taste, so I will help you. It is Starch White. Starch makes clothes stiff, but it cannot be used for salt. Ruth, you will find that the next “brother” bites your tongue. It is Bak ing Powder White. Lois, we will .let you taste the next. Yes, his name is Flour White. Flour is very useful, but it does not take the place of salt. Paul, will you name the last one? “ Salt.” Yes, this is Salt White.
