HER SON, THE HISTORY TEACHER: A LEGACY IN THE CLASSROOM Julieann’s son, a former history teacher at Maryville High School in Tennessee, made her story a central part of his classroom. After Julieann created a scrapbook of her experiences titled 5,6,7,8 – Shuffle Step: My Life as Best I Remember, she donated several war-related artifacts to a museum at the school. The collection includes a Japanese parachute, two Japanese swords, and the Mae West life preserver she wore during the crash. Julieann’s son often incorporated her experiences into his lessons, teaching his students about her life without initially revealing who the woman in the story was. “They are always shocked when he tells them, ‘That woman was my mother,’” Julieann says, proud of the way her son shared her history. The museum continues to grow, ensuring her legacy is remembered for generations to come. LIVING LIFE TO THE FULLEST Julieann White’s extraordinary journey began in the trenches of war, but her life continued to unfold with resilience and grace. She raised three sons with her late husband Donald, each becoming responsible and compassionate adults, and her life at Cedarhurst of Breese today is filled with laughter, dance, and the same spirit of strength that defined her youth. “I try to make the most of it,” she says with a smile. “At my age, you must enjoy every moment. Everyone here has been so nice and wonderful.” She recently hosted a “Pretty in Pearls” event at the community, celebrating a cherished tradition. Pearls, her constant companion during visits to wounded soldiers overseas, became a symbol of respect and a heartfelt tribute to their sacrifices. As the years pass, Julieann White’s life remains a testament to the power of perseverance, courage, and the belief that even in the darkest times, light can shine through. She has lived a full and extraordinary life, and her story continues to inspire those who hear it.
