SPORT
This has been a wonderful year for sport at Dulwich. It is always such a pleasure to see the students representing the College with pride and enthusiasm. The benefits of being involved in sport are well documented, with the development of resilience, social skills, leadership, and many other qualities cited as arguments for vast investment in school sports programmes. What I believe we often overlook are the straightforward benefits for the health both of the body and of the mind. From improving sleep and strengthening the heart through to reducing stress and improving bodily functions, physical activity plays a major role in living a long and healthy life, and it is vital to develop a positive attitude towards it. This year has seen a plethora of highlights, from the many national finals in which we have taken part, through to the special days of House sport. It is through reading the reports that follow that you will gain a vivid sense of what this past year has included, but I must just mention the U13s winning our first ever National Cup for football at Burton Albion, and Sameer Sunder-Rajan winning gold at the Public Schools’ Fencing Championships. Alongside those competitive highlights, it can’t help but put a smile on your face to see how much the boys enjoy their time together socialising through sport. That leaves me to thank the boys themselves for all their efforts. In particular, I wish the leavers all the very best as they move on. To all the parents who give up their time to come and support, it is very much appreciated by us all. Finally, my heartfelt thanks go to the staff who work so hard to support the boys on their sporting journey. Mr Coughtrie leaves us this year for Eton, and we offer him and his young family our best wishes as they move on to pastures new. Coach Clive has been leading basketball here at the College since 2009, and he retires at the end of the term. We wish him all the very best for the future.
