FENCING STEVE KELLY

It has been a fantastic year for the fencing team, with both team and individual successes. Two triangular tournaments against Worth and Tonbridge, encompassing Epee, Foil and Sabre, resulted in the Dulwich team coming out on top. These tournaments provided fantastic preparation for the major competitions of the year. The Public Schools’ Fencing Championship, hosted at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, saw 12 Dulwich students competing across all three swords. The highlight of the event was Sameer Sunder-Rajan winning the gold medal in the Junior Boys Epee. With a strong field of over 120 competitors, Sameer performed superbly to take home the gold. In the Senior Boys Sabre, Horace Lee also performed well, finishing in the top ten of a field of over 60 competitors. It was a fitting final performance for Horace as the Captain of Fencing. Outside of the school competitions, Sameer also saw success in the British Youth Championships. As one of the younger competitors, Sameer performed fantastically to earn another gold medal and trophy. Sameer has also been selected to represent Wales in the Commonwealth Games in the cadet’s division. Overall, this was a superb season, which shows great promise for the future of Dulwich fencing.
