MULLED WINE AND MINCE PIE CONCERT
Caitlin Kelly recalls a much-loved seasonal concert which, having been postponed due to Covid, went ahead a little later than usual, in a favourite local venue
This year’s Mulled Wine and Mince Pie Intermediate Concert was held at All Saints Church, and though Covid got in the way of holding our concert at the end of Michaelmas term, we were delighted to be able to rearrange the concert to be held in January, so that our intermediate ensembles were granted a platform on which to perform. In addition, it was wonderful to be able to hear the Year 7 Concert Choir’s postponed performance of their Beatles medley, which was originally intended to be featured in the Winter Concert. Also included was a fantastic programme of instrumental music played by the Concert Band, the newly formed Alan Morgan Orchestra, and the Other Big Band. All of the ensembles performed to a high standard, showcasing their hard work and demonstrating their enthusiasm at finally being able to perform together. George Ayres, a Year 7 music award holder, had this to say: ‘I really enjoyed the concert, and loved performing in the Other Big Band because I felt as if it filled the crowd with energy. There were many other ensembles that played beautiful and moving music, which everyone enjoyed. I was also really happy to play my trumpet alongside the Year 7 Choir’s performance of a medley by the Beatles. It was great to finally be able to perform!’
