Alpha Phi Is Always Home
By Elizabeth MeLampy (Iota Tau-Harvard) International Executive Board Vice President
Alpha Phi is my home.
I never expected to join a sorority, but from the moment I met the women who would become my sisters, I knew I was in the right place.
I was a founding member of my Alpha Phi chapter, and Alpha Phi became the center of my collegiate years. It was where I physically spent my time, and where I learned and challenged myself as a leader. I grew so much during the four years I spent building and shaping our chapter. I learned how to have hard conversations. I learned
how to think strategically and how to make tough decisions. I learned how to navigate leadership challenges and interpersonal conflict. I learned how to work collaboratively with a network of advisors, school officials and peers to accomplish a goal. Alpha Phi gave me all of that, but it also gave me some of my best friends. There is something so special in sharing a sisterhood with people. It’s different than any other friendship. It’s deeper, because it’s rooted in something bigger than ourselves.
