is wholly and solely true of unsaved ones alone; and in my feeble judg ment it is not true of all sinners. It is only true of those who knowing ly and deliberately maintain that at titude of soul — of pride and wilful ness. Matthew 13 clearly shows, I believe, that not all unbelievers are children of the devil. For in the first parable of that chapter, we read that, when the Word of God is sown in man’s heart, Satan comes along and snatches it away, lest men should believe and be saved. This is nega tive work; Satan takes away the good seed. But in the next parable, that of the wheat and the tares, we learn that the devil does positive evil work. He sows false seed, and we are told that the fruit of that false, imitation gospel is the children of the devil. This proves that not those who do not receive the true gospel; but those who do receive the devil’s false gospel are said to be the chil dren of the devil. As by believing Cut coupon on this li
in Christ a sinner becomes a child of God through new birth; so by believing the devil’s lie, a sinner be comes a child of the devil. It is not the rejection of the true, but the acceptance of the false, that consti tutes a sinner a child of the devil. By nature all men alike are children of Adam. By new birth a believer becomes a child of God; by Satanic birth a child of the devil. Thus, chil dren of the devil in Scripture are those who are marked by open de fiance of God, because they have aligned themselves with Satan. The Lord Jesus in John 8 :44 spoke of the wilful and wicked leaders of the Jews as being of their father, the devil; He never spoke of the ordinary un saved people in that manner. So Paul spoke of Elymas, the sorcerer, as a child of the devil — Acts 13:10 — not because Elymas didn’t believe in Jesus, but because he was an enemy of all righteousness, and per verted the right ways of the Lord. and mail to BIOLA
