Reflections from Kappa Leadership
later than late May or early June. The use of virtual and other commu- nication apps has been utilized greatly throughout the Province. Province Chaplain Dr. Michael Moore conducts a prayer call each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:30 AM/EDT to pro- vide spiritual support as we cope with COVID-19. On June 4, 2020, Province Health and Wellness Chairman Dr. Hernando D. Carter (Birmingham (AL) AL 2002) partnered with Jacksonville (FL) Alumni Chapter members Dr. William L. Cody, Sr. (Memphis (TN) AL 1977) and Dr. Wesley C. Mills (Delta Omega 1997) and presented a COVID-19 webinar, to the Southern Province via Zoom. Stay safe and God Bless.
take on family, professional and fra- ternal tasks to the best of their ability. Our Chapters continue to hold regular meetings, via conference calls and Zoom and remain vigilant in doing the good works of Kappa. Our Province Board is persevering through these difficult times by incessantly planning, as illustrated by its strategy to combine Province Council with its upcoming C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Council, by its commitment to the Brotherhood with its bi-weekly “Hour of Power Prayer” and through its dedication to Achievement, with its upcoming Virtual Spring Graduation Ceremony for Graduating Brothers. We are cognizant of what is de- scribed as “the new normal,” but our strength derives from the “old normal” and that is our faith in God. It is God who has encouraged us that our belief in Him will give us strength, regardless of the situation. We will continue to love, support, and lean on one another as we come through such unprecedented times but, most of all we will remain encouraged by one another. 1 Thessa- lonians 5:11: “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” For we are the “Small but Mighty,” East Central Province!
Coping with COVID-19 in the Southern Province
A ll of our lives— personal, profes- sional, religious and fraternal—have been impacted by
the COVID-19 pandemic. Our thoughts and
prayers go out to Fraternity members, family members and friends who have been infected by the virus and who have succumbed to it. The Southern Province congratulates Junior Province Vice Polemarch-Ala- bama Micah Grey, Tuskegee University Chapter the Gamma Epsilon of Kappa Alpha Psi; Undergraduate Province Board of Director Christian Watts, Bethune-Cookman University Chapter the Gamma Theta of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; and all spring 2020 Southern Province graduates. COVID-19 did not define your academic careers and will not define your professional achieve- ments. The Southern Province completed the spring 2020 MTA just prior to the im- plementation of social distancing, meet- ing, and other COVID-19 restrictions by federal, state and local authorities. We initiated 284 new members: 57 in Tal- lahassee, Florida on March 7 and 227 in Montgomery, Alabama on March 13. The 70 th Southern Province Coun- cil Meeting scheduled to be held in Birmingham, Alabama, was postponed. Our Province Board met via teleconfer- ence to discuss whether the re-schedul- ing of our Province Council, potentially slated for late summer 2020, can be arranged in order to avoid endangering the members of our Province. We’re hopeful we can finalize our decision no

Yet through it all, we must continue to preserve, progress, and have faith. Walking by faith, The Brothers of the East Central Province are diligent in our pursuit of excellence and “have not missed a beat.” Our members have arrayed themselves appropriately to
