The Kappa Alpha Psi Journal

COMMENTARY

I salute all the Brothers involved in Guide Right during these difficult times. Local Guide Right/Kappa League programs have been keep- ing students engaged and empowered through video conferencing sessions. The National Guide Right Committee has been hosting weekly National Kappa League Virtual Sessions for students each Saturday since March 28, 2020 most have been led by Kappa Leaguers throughout the nation. Kappa Leaguers Zion Nuby and Devonte Dawson have led several topics. The sessions are averaging 258 par- ticipants per session. There were also additional special sessions for parents and for graduating high school seniors. National Kappa League Challenges, Kappa League Challenges and stay in shape challenges have been addressed enthusiastically by Kappa Leaguers. During May and June, Guide Right/Kap- pa League programs will be conducting virtual College Signing Day programs locally, provincially and nationally to celebrate the achievements of our Kappa Leaguers and the graduating 12th grad- ers. For the upcoming summer, the National Guide Right Committee will host virtual leadership workshops, college prepara- tion workshops and a virtual National Kappa League Conference. I thank all the Brothers who have participated and led breakout room sessions on the National sessions. I want to particularly recognize Brothers Thomas McCaleb, Ben Jackson, Daud, Haseeb, Antonio Harrison, Oscar Neely, Kristopher McKinney and Dr. Samuel Odom for their service on the National Sessions.

One of the programs we are most proud is the Senior Kappa Affairs Endowment Fund which was envisioned by the 33 rd Administration and continues to be sup- ported by the 34 th Administration. The purpose of the fund is to provide funds to local chapter Senior Kappa Affairs Committees to support community service initiatives. Although, our focus is on our seniors, we realize there is a segment of our fraternity that is enduring a hardship like no other, and that is our Undergraduates. That being the case we the Senior Kappa Affairs Committee and Senior Kappa’s strongly support the Brother to Brother initiative by making a substantiable monetary dona- tion to this most worthy undertaking. We are experiencing uncertain times unlike anything we have ever seen in this life- time or most likely will ever see again. We continue to function even under these circumstances, serving the needs of our Senior Kappa’s and senior citizens.
