TO THE CHAPTER INVISIBLE
Sporting News magazine ranked Davis 69 th of the Top 100 NFL players of all time. While playing for the Packers, Davis was preparing for his post-NFL life by continuing his education. He earned an MBA degree in 1968 from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. After retiring from the NFL in 1969, Davis worked in the business world where he owned businesses such as a beer and wine distributorship in Los Angeles and headed a radio network. According to Davis, he had a “passion for radio broadcasting, becoming one of the first Black Americans to own a Class A radio broadcasting license.” Davis served on the board of directors for Dow Chemical, MGM Resorts International, Schlitz Brewing, Sara Lee, Johnson Controls, American Express, Mattel and the Green Bay Packers. He also was a game analyst for NFL games on NBC in the early 1970s. Brother Willie Davis is survived by his wife, Carol, and children Duane (Inge) and Lori, grandchildren David, Wyatt, Harley and Hayden, as well as brothers and sisters. He was a trailblazer in the world of business, as adept in the boardroom of the numerous Fortune 500 corporations on whose boards of directors he served as he was on the gridiron. His later passion was radio broadcasting, becoming one of the first African Americans to own a Class A radio broadcasting license.
