TIMELINE: A LOOK BACK THROUGH THE KAPPA ALPHA PSI ® JOURNAL
“
...Well, government is a necessity and we hope it will be good govern- ment. But we cannot escape into caves or live on a raft in the ocean....We need protection from burglars, bad-check artists and child molestors. We need to be saved from corporate waste and racist institutions. So, indeed, we do need Caesar in some form...This is where we come in, men of Kappa and other alert citizens. We want a government that responds to a decent moral consensus...to of- fer a healthy start to every child, to provide education to the height of her/ his potential, to protect us from violent threats at home and from abroad; to guarantee clean air, water and soil; to assure just and fair treatment of everyone, to generate an economic condition that provides access to the good life, to sufficiency for mind, body and soul to everyone, and to set before the world a new human paradigm for a blessed, diverse and just community. This is what we render to Caesar, a glowing, dynamic consen- sus for a great nation. Finally, when the government has done its best, we still need to render unto God what God is due. Caesar cannot do every- thing.
