COMMENTARY: THE UNDERGRADUATE GRAND CHAPTER OFFICERS
In the midst of the most unprecedented health pandemic to ever hit our society, and certainly one that we have never seen in our young lives, our country offered a grim sense of familiarity in its classic racist disregard for people who look like us. As Kappa Alpha Psi ® undergraduate leaders, we feel it is necessary to articulate our understanding of this moment. Here are our thoughts: OUR UNDERSTAN MOMENT: IN OUR
As years, decades,
and centuries pass, America
remains institu- tionally and sys- tematically numb to the mistreat- ment of African Americans by law enforcement. As an African American in this country, I fear every day that I will become the next statistic in the increas- ingly visible perversion of justice in policing. I
fear that I, or my loved ones, will face the same
fate as our brothers and sisters: George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery,
Sandra Bland, and Breonna Taylor — all unlawfully slain in cold blood. We must come together now, and continue to uplift members of our community to rise above the institutional barriers that perpetuate the injustices that we see today.
