force development, worker rights/labor relations, health care, government/ politics, law, business/entrepreneurism and athletics. National fraternity initia- tives such as, fraternity undergraduate “training for leadership,” Guide Right, Silhouettes, career networking, chapter chartering within the Northern Prov- ince were all successfully implemented. Chapter members made a historical imprint on the Detroit Community as men of distinction were, achievers “in every field of human endeavor”. The committed men of Detroit (MI) Alumni Chapter challenged the Jim Crow status quo, breaking down bar- riers of racial discrimination. They shattered the glass ceiling becoming in many cases the first African Americans to serve in a specific career area both in the private and public sectors. Kappa men were admired, and respected for their professionalism, integrity and work ethic. Their effects and determination to uphold the objectives and mission of the fraternity have made an everlasting positive impression on the quality of life for the community of the city of Detroit. Grounded in social graces, the men of Detroit (MI) Alumni were known for their, gatherings, parties, celebrations and brotherly fellowshipping at the Historical Detroit Kappa House, for 75-years. by paving the road to The Detroit Alumni Kappa Center. As the de- mographics of the city change, our current location is not part of the master plan. The Kappa culture of Detroit (MI) Alumni is stoic. The spirit of Kappa, Legacies, Archives, Traditions, and Ritual will follow us to a new host, a Shrine to Kappa Alpha Psi. We recognize the chapter founders, the men who “toiled and strove”
to serve Kappa, men, who withstood adversity, against all odds. The Detroit (MI) Alumni Chapter Kappa Center is built on the shoulders of the exceptional Kappa men, McKinley Casey, Joseph D. Duplessis, Leonidas Curtis, Fred Jones Dr. E. A. Carter, Newton Dolphin, and Founder Henry T. Asher joined im- mediately after the chartering.
