DEALING WITH ANXIETY Unfortunately, living with stress and anxiety has become a way of life in our modern world. This is especially true during the current COVID-19 pandemic because of closures of schools and workplaces as well as losses of income. Also, because it has become more difficult to socialize with friends and family, many people have suffered from being isolated and lonely. All of this can lead to an increase in anxiety.

for the mental health benefits. I have personally found that exercise, walking, stair climber, lifting weights, and pretty much anything involving movement dramatically improves my mood throughout the day. USE BREATHING TECHNIQUES Some people find the 4-7-8 breathing technique helpful to manage stress. Take a deep, slow breath from your belly and silently count to 4 as you breathe in. Hold your breath, and silently count from 1 to 7. Breathe out completely as you silently count from 1 to 8. Try to get all the air out of your lungs by the time you count to 8.

Below are some techniques I have found useful to manage stress and anxiety. Please note that these tips have been recommended by health care professionals, but they are not a substitute for mental health care by a professional. If you or someone you know is suffering from a mental health crisis, seek help immediately. There is no shame in this. Over half of all Americans will suffer from a mental health disorder at some point in their life. You are not alone. If you or someone you know needs professional help, don’t hesitate! The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline provides free and confidential support for people in distress and provides prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved one. The toll-free number is 1-800-273-8255. That being said, here are five recommendations from health care professionals that I have found particularly helpful in my personal life. IDENTIFY SOURCES OF STRESS Some experts have recommended keeping a stress diary. Write down sources of stress and anxiety every day. After a few days or a week, read your journal entries and identify sources of stress. Once you have identified sources of stress or triggers, you can take steps to avoid them or at least manage your feeling toward them. EXERCISE MORE This is a big one for me. Studies have shown that regular exercise reduces anxiety and builds stress tolerance. I have made an effort to fit in some sort of exercise every day, even if it is just walking, not so much for the physical benefits but

Repeat 3–7 times or until you feel calm. Seems simple, but it really helps!

GRATITUDE Call someone you love and tell them that you are grateful for them. Expressing gratitude to others can create and enhance relationships. You feel better about yourself, and others, in turn, feel better about you. Psychologist Robert Emmons defines gratitude as “a felt sense of wonder, thankfulness, and appreciation for life.” Research has shown that people who feel gratitude are happier, report more life satisfaction, and report less stress. Grateful people are less likely to be depressed, anxious, lonely, and neurotic. TALK TO SOMEONE Just talking about your emotions and feelings with a friend or family member can sometimes help you feel better. The worst thing you can do is hold it in. Remember, you’re not alone. Talk it out with someone close to you.

And, finally, remember there is no shame in seeking professional help!

EXPL RING LAS VEGAS

Take a tour with Rail Explorers and experience the magic of the railroad like never before! Ride the rails on their pedal-powered Rail Explorers — a unique activity suitable for everyone.

The Las Vegas Division of the Rail Explorers offers the following options:

ARE GROCERY SUBSCRIPTION BOXES WORTH IT? June is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month, so let’s explore one popular way to get more fresh produce into our lives: subscription- based delivery services like Full Circle and Imperfect Food. Are these services actually worth it? Do they save money and provide what they promise? Here’s what the research turned up. CAN THEY SAVE YOU TIME? The Verdict: Yes, without a doubt. Subscription-based grocery delivery services appeal to consumers because they save time. With somebody else doing your grocery shopping, you don’t have to think about when you’re making a trip to the grocery store this week. Someone else is doing it for you! THE SOUTHWEST RAMBLE This is an exhilarating 4-mile downhill pedal-powered ride from the station to the park at Railroad Pass. Bring a snack and a drink to enjoy during the 30-minute break at the railside picnic area. Then, enjoy a ride back to the top of the hill in one of the museum’s historic trains (included in ticket price). SUNSET RAILBIKE RIDE The Sunset Tour is a spectacular ride from the Nevada State Railroad Museum to Railroad Pass. Coast downhill under the vast desert sky in the cool of the evening as the sun sets behind the River Mountains.

FIRESIDE TWILIGHT Discover the magic of the Southwest Ramble at Twilight! The rail-side picnic area features personal firepits and Adirondack chairs. BYO marshmallows!

Next time you’re in Boulder City, check out Rail Explorers and don’t forget to tour the train museum while you’re there!

IS THE FOOD QUALITY GREAT? The Verdict: Yes, but it depends on your area. You have a higher chance of getting better grocery items if you buy from an organic grocery box service, like Imperfect Foods or Farm Fresh to You, since these companies work closely with your local farms. Keep in mind that some services, like Imperfect Foods, are designed to deliver fresh foods that are a little “imperfect” in size, shape, or color to help prevent food waste — but, as a benefit, it’s more affordable! However, we’ve found some services, like Full Circle, will prepackage their boxes from warehouses that may not be local to you, so do a little research before picking one. All in all, we’ve been pleasantly surprised to find that these boxes aren’t such a bad idea. Consider looking into it if you’re tired of the weekly grocery store time crunch!

Plus, some services even offer meal kits if you can’t decide what to make. There’s no argument here — these services definitely save you time.

CAN THEY SAVE YOU MONEY? The Verdict: Sometimes, since it depends on your existing shopping habits. If you find yourself making impulsive purchases while strolling down the aisles at the grocery store, then a set (but customizable) weekly list of delivered groceries might be a great way to stick to your budget. Unfortunately, not many grocery subscription-box delivery services offer nonfood items like toilet paper or cleaning products, so you may still have to make a trip to the store every once in a while.

What happens if you’re involved in a car wreck on the way to a doctor’s appointment for workers’ compensation? This occurs more often than one might think. You are driving to an appointment for your workers’ compensation claim and BANG! Someone rear-ends your vehicle! Now, what happens if you have new injuries as a result of the car wreck? What happens if your work-related injuries have worsened because of the wreck?

occurs while the injured worker is traveling to an appointment through the workers’ compensation claim, then any injuries related to the car wreck will be deemed compensable under the claim. This means that if you have any new injuries as a result of the car wreck, they are covered under your current claim. If your original injuries are aggravated, you’re still covered. Of course, you can also pursue a claim against the at-fault driver and their insurance company in addition to receiving compensation and benefits through the workers’ compensation claim.

The Nevada Supreme Court addressed this very issue recently. It held that if the car wreck

Are ‘Resort Bubbles’ Safe?

ARE ‘RESORT BUBBLES’ SAFE What You Need to Know Before Booking Your Tropical Trip

Then, at check-in, sanitation and temperature checks are required. After the checks, tourists are directed to an on-site clinic, where nurses ask a few questions and perform a rapid COVID-19 test. Guests are then sent to their rooms, where they must await the results. If the test comes back negative, the tourist will receive a key card and can commence with their vacation. (Some resorts set the price of lodging so that if test results are positive, then the required flight home is part of the original cost, so it’s already paid for.) Other resorts require visitors to wear tracking bracelets for 72 hours upon arrival and a negative test result. After 72 hours and a second negative test, the guest is then permitted to leave the hotel grounds. This allows the hotel chain to track potential COVID-19 cases. These resort bubbles offer a potentially safe alternative for travel, but they don’t come without risks. A traveler could potentially contract COVID-19 while en route to the destination, and resorts that allow guests to leave the premises risk exposure. Furthermore, these precautions may not be 100% effective. However, if you are vaccinated, have COVID-19 antibodies, or feel safe to travel, resort bubbles offer a travel alternative that can be safer than traditional vacation stays. Perhaps no industry was hit harder during the COVID-19 pandemic than the travel and hospitality industry, but with the addition of resort bubbles, the travel industry looks to return to a new normal.

As vaccination numbers continue to climb and experts gain a better understanding of COVID-19, more industries are adapting. Tropical resorts in Hawaii and the Bahamas have started to host visitors in “resort bubbles,” requiring travelers to complete a series of tests before full admittance. But are these travel options safe? That depends on your comfort level and a resort’s adherence to the rules. According to Forbes, each resort that offers this travel package may have different rules, but the gist of each experience is the same. Each resort still requires masks, unless the visitor is in their room, dining, drinking, sitting at the beach or pool, or swimming.
