A LITTLE ABOUT OUR FEMALE MANAGEMENT

We calve all of our females in the fall. We breed one time AI starting about January 1. About 17 days after being served AI the registered females are put with a natural service bull. Bulls are taken from the females on about March 15. Our first calf heifers run with the mature cows once they calve with NO extra care. We pregnancy test in the spring and all open females are culled. During the winter, our cow herd is not fed grain, silage or baleage; they go through the winter with their fall born calves on grass hay, and we DO NOT creep feed the calves. We test our hay each year and if the test is not up to snuff we feed Purina Accuration Hi-Fat tubs for about 45 days prior to breeding. The heifers are weaned on pasture and hay if needed. For about 60 days prior to breeding, the heifers receive ACCURATION and fescue hay, if needed.

Yearling data is taken in late October and processed through the American Angus Association. The heifers are then culled with the culls going to the local sale barn. Our herd is Certified Brucellosis free, #56251. We have tested our entire herd for over 20 years for Johne’s, BVD PI, BLV and have always had a clean test. We have been a closed herd for years, only bringing in semen and embryos. All registered bulls, cows and calves in this sale have DNA enhanced EPDs and are parent verified using DNA. Due to lab turnaround time, two of the younger calves did not have their DNA enhanced EPDs by press time, but we should have them by February 1, 2026. The females in this sale have received pasture, free choice fescue hay and a limited ration of soyhulls and grain since December 20, 2025.
