The GIST. Some examples are: 1. driving the posted speed limit 2. wearing a seat belt 3. keeping your own pets on your property, by not allowing them to roam the neighborhood. It is your responsibility to follow rules, and as you grow up, you will have many more responsibilities. You will be so proud of yourself when you do the right thing! THAT’S THE GIST!

CULTURAL CONNECTIONS:

Do you know the importance government, responsibility, rules and law have on the culture of America? The GIST is that we all have rules to follow. What rules do you have at your house and school? Do you always follow the rules that you are given? If you’re like most kids, you may have several rules that you have to follow. There are reasons for having these rules. They are made so that you and others stay safe, learn to listen and follow directions, and eventually become a productive citizen of society. When you grow up as an adult, you will have to follow the laws created by our government.

FUN FACTS ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION • The Constitution was written on four pieces of parchment, which is animal skin.
