Did you know that March first is National Pig Day? This was started in 1972 by Ellen Stanley and Mary Lynne Rave. The purpose of National Pig Day is to celebrate the pig and is mostly celebrated in the midwest. There are pig events at zoos, schools, and even nursing homes.

Ray Ray Sweatt is a CCHS student whose family has a pig farm as well as lots of other farm animals.

What do you feed your pigs? Do you have a certain time you have to feed them? You would normally feed pigs corn or pig pellet. It doesn’t matter what time you feed them as long as it’s once a day. What was it like growing up raising pigs and do you have a favorite part? Growing up raising pigs has been very fun. You learn so many things about them and what they might be required to have. My favorite part is getting to watch them grow over time.

Do you have any other farm animals? Yes , I do! I have ducks, chickens, rabbits, dogs, cats, horses, and peacocks. Is it difficult to balance school and helping with the farm? It’s not bad for the most part. You just have to make time for all of the animals that you have and make time to see all the animals on the farm. I always make sure to feed and water all the animals. I might not have time to spend time with them at that moment, but I make it up the next time I see them, which usually is the next day.
