A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 12

Year 12 students have continued to work really hard this week on their UCAS application forms. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Photography students who took lots of pictures during the lower school’s annual Sports Day event on Tuesday. Their support is much appreciated. Yesterday our Fashion students visited the New Designers Exhibition at the Business Design Centre. New Designers is an exhibition that showcases the work of the country’s best design graduates. This visit gave students inspiration for their personal investigation and also an opportunity to think about degree courses and future careers in the creative industries and design world. A number of Physics students are set to take part in the NPL Academy programme next week which is being led by Mr Grace. Students involved in this will be attending sessions for the whole week. Next week, thirty Taiwanese and Spanish exchange students will come to Waldegrave. I would like to take this opportunity to thank in advance the Year 12 students who have volunteered to support them during lessons, at break and lunch time. Also happening next week is a trip to the World of Work conference. Fifteen of our students are set to attend this trip on Thursday, which I am sure they will all find extremely useful. At the end of the upcoming week, our Economics students will visit the Bank of England as part of their A Level studies. Please note that there is planned industrial action next Wednesday 5 July and Friday 7 July. Please check previous letters to see how each year group will be affected on these days.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

A Thousand Mornings by Mary Oliver

A Thousand Mornings dips into the poet’s images of her beloved home Provincetown, Massachusetts, whereby she explores the endless nostalgia of beaches and shores, particularly focusing on how it can provide an escape from the mundane aspects of life.

Her observations and attention to detail relays how even the smallest moments in life can encapsulate pure meaning, and evokes the tranquillity felt when immersing oneself in the wonder of each new dawn. Oliver allows us to enter a precious landscape of both memory and the clarity of nature, enlisting that we find peace in what’s around us.
