Awakenings offers a wide range of products, including essential oils, candles, crystals and singing bowls, as well as services intended to target self- care and well-being, like therapy sessions, spiritual coaching, divinatory card readings, aura cleansing and group meditation. Location was one of the biggest factors motivating Awakenings to select their current retail space in Baton Rouge. The shop supports businesses throughout the community, such as authors and publishers through book sales and written materials, artisan craftsmen by offering handmade crystals and jewelry, and even by hosting fundraisers for clients. Awakenings needed that perfect space to fill their needs. Working with
St. John Properties, the business found two adjoining suites, so Awakenings could offer both products and services from one location. Speaks was impressed by the building quality, as well as the on-site parking. Add that to the direct visibility along Airline Highway, and the location at Barringer Crossing II was a winner. I f you’re looking for a new signature sauce, Capital City has you covered. Established in 2011, the company sells a Washington, D.C., staple condiment called mambo sauce — a perfect blend of sweet and savory with a bit of a kick. Mambo sauce comes as either mild or sweet hot, which has a hint of cayenne and habanero pepper, and is best paired with fried chicken wings.
The company was founded by owners Charles and Arsha Jones in 2011. After Arsha and her family moved from Washington, D.C., to Maryland, she felt nostalgic and made them the sauce recipe from her childhood. Eventually they decided that it was tasty enough to market and sell. The Jones family has grown this home-based business into a successful company, providing a beloved product from their childhood to more people around the world. Capital City’s signature sauce can be purchased at multiple retail locations in the Washington, D.C., area including Target, Papa John’s, Walmart, Amazon and Marriott hotels. In addition to buying a bottle of mambo sauce, customers can find full recipes, sauce bundles and even T-shirts on the company’s website. “Although running a business is hard, it is rewarding getting positive feedback
from customers who love our products,” said Arsha. Even though they are a small company, Capital City lends their support to other businesses, such as trucking, suppliers, labels and manufacturing. Further, they specifically seek out other small and/or local businesses to purchase products and services from. With five on-site employees, Capital City’s more than 8,000-square-foot space at Melford Town Center is primarily used for warehousing, with a location that’s perfectly suited to grow. By working with St. John Properties, the company was able to customize their space to fit a growing staff and sustain their current business. They collaborated with St. John Properties’ in-house interior design and interior construction teams to painlessly construct the space of their dreams.

Having retired from teaching, West found a new purpose in advocating personal safety for women. “This journey began in my husband’s saddle shop, where I started selling purses. My husband was already making custom leather holsters, and it wasn't long before women began inquiring about concealed carry purses, a
niche that was quite underrepresented in 2013. So I took the initiative to launch my own website and began selling different brands of concealed carry purses.” Seeing the limited choices available, West was inspired to design her own line. Their facility in the Corporate Center business community includes ample flexible space to fully realize Lady Conceal’s mission.
