the words. We place the first in the envelope with “ J” on it and read “ Un justly planned, deceitfully stole bless ing.” That is what Jacob did. With the second card in the envelope, we read “Unforgotten trickery against brother.” No wonder Jacob had fear. Next we read “ Feared results Esau’s punishment.” That is the reason he feared his brother. The fourth tells us that he “ Offered prayer, imploring the Almighty.” That is a good thing to do when afraid. As we place the fifth card in its ' envelope, we read “Became repentant, forgiven, named Israel.” This short history of Jacob’s life should remind us that those who turn to God in faith are forgiven and changed. March 11, 1956 A C o a t o f M a n y C o lo r s OBJECT: A miniature coat as de scribed. LESSON: You remember the story in the Bible about a father who made his son Joseph a coat. If I were mak ing a coat of many colors for one of my children, I would want to make it like this one, because its colors tell the most wonderful story in all the world. The left sleeve is black, reminding us of sin and of the fact that God has said, “ The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jer. 17:9.) The red collar speaks to us of the blood of Jesus Christ. “ . . . the blood of Jesus Christ his;'Soh cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). When we realize that we have sinned, the first thing we should do is to ask God to cleanse us with the precious blood of Christ Who died for us. The right sleeve is white and shows how the soul looks in the sight of God after it has been cleansed by Christ’s blood. Hyssop was the plant used in Old Testament times to sprin kle the blood of the sacrificed Pass- over lamb which represented Christ, the Saviour. David said, “ Purge me

with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow” (Ps. 51:7). The left side of the coat is green, suggesting growth and fruitfulness. God wants those who have been cleansed to grow in their Christian lives and to be fruitful for the Lord Jesus. There is a blue border on the bottom of this coat. When the chil dren of Israel were going into the wilderness, God commanded them to sew a border of blue on the hem of their garments, so that whenever they looked toward the earth, the blue would remind them that they were God’s people.

OBJECTS: Five correspondence cards and envelopes. (Cut a slot in the cen ter front of each envelope V6 x 3 inches, lengthwise. Seal and cut an end off each envelope. Hinge together, side by side, using mending tape. The free ends should open upward. Write “ J” near the top end of the first, “A” bn the second, “ C” on the third, “ O” on the fourth and “ B” on the fifth. With the cards in the envelopes, write, where the cards show through the slots, one of the following words vertically on each card: “ Jacob,” “ Fear,” “ Esau,” “ Faith” and “Angel.” Using the word “ Jacob” on the first card, write on the envelope, complet ing the following words: “ Unjustly planned, deceitfully stole blessing.” Using the word “ Fear” on the second card, write “Unforgotten trickery against brother.” On the next, using the word “ Esau” write “ Feared re sults Esau’s punishment.” Complete the words “ Offered prayer imploring the Almighty” on the fourth, using the word “ Faith.” With the word “ Angel” on the fifth, finish “Became repentant, forgiven, named Israel.” ) LESSON: I hold in my hand five cards which tell us about an important person in history. The first gives his name, “ Jacob.” The second tells of “ Fear,” the third the name of his

The right side of the coat is yellow, representing the streets of gold in heaven. If we accept Christ as Sav iour, we will some day walk on the streets of gold. Doesn’t this coat seem more beautiful when we understand what the colors mean? Joseph’s coat was not just like this one, but I thought you would enjoy seeing this coat and learning about its colors. . * OBJECTS: ' Two bundles of matches} each containing about 25, a piece of sponge about the size of a walnut and two rubber bands. (Glue the matches of one bundle together and place a rubber band around them. Place the black sponge in the center of the other bundle and put a rubber CONTINUED 41 March 18, 1956 M e n a n d M a t c h e s

brother, “ Esau,” the fourth, “ Faith,” and the fifth, “ Angel.” Are you won dering how these words fit into the life of Jacob? These envelopes hinged together give us the history of Ja cob’s life. They appear to have only a jumble of parts of words. Perhaps these cards, if placed in the envelopes, will give meaning to
