T HE K I N G ’S B U S I N E S S til one morning early, as I was painting up in the inside of the roof of the Crys tal Palace, not dreaming that anyone was in the building, X was startled by hearing a voice ringing out, ‘Behold the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world.’ Please tell Mr. Spurgeon,’ said the dying man, ‘that he was privil eged to lead me to the Saviour’.” Saved by One Sermon Dr. Lyman Beecher one stormy night preached to but one hearer. The man was converted, although Dr. Beecher did not know it until twenty-five years later, when he met the man, who was then a minister. Perhaps Paul was converted through Stephen’s sermon in Acts 7, but if so, Stephen did not know it until he had arrived in the glory with Christ. Golden Text Illustration Two great infidels, Gilbert West and Lord Lyttleton, had imbibed the princi ples of infidelity. They were fully per suaded that the Bible was an imposture, and were determined to expose the cheat. Mr. West chose the resurrection of Christ, and Lord Lyttleton, the con version of St. Paul for their criticism. The result was that they were both con verted by their endeavors to overthrow the truth of Christianity. How much like Saul of Tarsus! Learning to Obey Jesus. A cts 9 :1 -12 , 17-19. Lesson Story. —In one way the boy Saul was just like our boys today, he grew up to be a man, and even though he was a very smart man and kept all the Jewish laws, yet he was a very wick ed man because he fought the Christians, those who believed in Jesus. He caused them to be put in prison and to be killed because they loved Jesus. In our story for today he is starting out on a journey to a city called Damascus, to see if he can find some people there who believe on Jesus, and if so he is going to bind them and bring them to Jerusalem. Now we will let this match be Saul, and the tooth picks the other men who were with him. See they are starting for the city of Damascus, and as we look up the road we can see the wall of the city. As they came near to the city, suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven. Saul fell to the earth, and as he lay there, he heard a voice saying unto him, “Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?” Then Saul asked who the voice was speaking to him. Now listen and hear the answer that came to Saul. And the Lord said, “I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.” Saulwasgreatly fright ened and trembled as he asked what the Lord would have him do. The voice told Saul to arise and go into the city, and he would be told what to do. Saul got up from the ground and opened his eyes but he could not see, so they took him by the hand and led him into the city of Damascus. He was there three days and still he could not see. During this time Saul did not eat or drink. In this city of Damascus lived a man named Ananias, who loved Jesus and always did the things Jesus wished him to do. Now the Lord spoke to Ananias in a vision and told him to go to a house on a street named Straight, and ask for one called Saul, of Tarsjis. And he also told him that Saul was praying, and that
