Then they went to another city where they found what some of our missionaries find today in many places, a false prop het or something like a fortune teller. (Here is a splendid opportunity to ex plain a little about the work of mediums, and show the children the danger and evil, for many parents today are being led' away through spiritism). Now the governor of the island had heard about Pa,ul and Barnabas, called for them and wanted to hear the Word of God, and as Paul and Barnabas explained it to him, he was greatly interested. This man who was a false prophet or fortune teller, when he saw that the great man, the governor, was listening to the mission aries and beginning to believe in Jesus, came near and bothered Paul and Bar nabas and tried to keep the governor from listening. Now Paul turned and looked right at the man, and told him he was very wicked, and that because he did not want the governor to believe in Jesus, he (Paul) knew that the man was a child of Satan, and that God would cause him to be blind for a time. Then the man could not see and went about trying to get some one to lead him about. Then the governor, seeing what a won derful God Jesus was, believed all the words of Paul and Barnabas. We have many missionaries in different lands to day, and yet our story tells us of the be ginning of Christian missions. They
713 preached the story of Jesus in another city and great crowds came to hear the Word of God, but when the Jews saw the great crowds, they spoke against the' words of Paul and Barnabas. Then Paul and Barnabas said they would go to the Gentiles, and preach the Gospel to them, and when the Gentiles heard they were glad, and many believed on Jesus and were saved. These great missionaries, Paul and Barnabas, did just what our memory verse tells us. Let us say it over together. Now each one of us can be missionaries right now, for we can tell the story of Jesus to others and invite them to come to Sunday School, and then when we grow up God may call us to go out to different places and fell of Jesus and His love. Closing Prayer. —Dear Lord Jesus, we thank thee for thy love to us, and help us to tell others of this wonderful love. 1. Barnabas and Paul called by the Holy Ghost vs. 1-4. Explain this passage. It may be as well to start with the Golden Text and explain it, placing emphasis upon the fact that a call to Christian work must come from God and all Christian- workers should be filled with the Holy Ghost. . 2. God’s judgment upon Elymas, vs. 5-12. Draw Paul and Elymas explaining this Scripture and. showing that God’s judgments upon false prophets are sure. BLACKBOARD- SKETCHES By Ern Hansell
