Converter Outlook: Part I (CONT’D FROM PAGE 22)

Iran is rendered useless. The US and the rest of the world will not allow Iran to continue to build a nuclear bomb. Hence all of the previous sanctions will be turned back on. Strength in America will be restored and needless wars from absent minded leaders will be a thing of the past. “Things will be bumpy for the first few months of next year. That blip in pre-tariff inventory building will be a flash in the pan. The might of America will be again produc- ing goods and services which lead to non-discretionary products that require our most favored product, Mr. Box. J P Morgan is predicting global GDP of 5.2 percent. That means we should see around 2.5 percent in the US, and we will be poised for growth more so in the second quar- ter. Retail sales in November were up .07 percent and an- nually retail sales was 7.9 percent. I think we will see total retail sales around 9 percent for the year. “Remember 70 percent of our economy is the consum- er spending money. 2025 will be a big one for the motion picture industry that has a bunch of blockbuster movies in the can lined up for release into and through next year. “Most don’t realize the effect that has on purchas- es of apparel, toys and electronics all branded with that next movie action figure or favorite cartoon. Retail will be looking to attract the consumer again and get her into the store. Movies do just that. How can mom say no to her screaming kids looking for that next new thing? Even Doug McMillon, CEO of Walmart, is stressing the importance of creating that instore experience to bring the consumer into his stores and enjoy that moment of escape ultimately to buy products. “Many retail environments have succumbed to creating just a world of products with price tags. Now we need a guiding light to drive our consumer towards these prod- ucts. Remember we only have three seconds to get her to notice something in store, pick it up and put it in her cart. I see more emphasis on bright and colorful retail packaging and more eye-popping displays at retail driving sales. This is a requirement to compliment the other 20 percent of retail now bought online and growing. “This will be a big year at retail onshelf and online. On- line packaging will have to morph into bringing back that experience or feeling at purchase when delivered home by recreating that experience with enticing graphics out- side and inside the box. Amazon’s SIOC (Ship In Own Con- tainer) now SIPP (Ships In Product Packaging) will drive that experience. That is of course, if the porch pirates don’t steal all the good stuff because they can identify it clearly. Still, the package is the product on shelf and online! “So how do we prepare for this next new normal (again) of steady growth in the box business? I believe as always, invest in training. The moment to sharpen the saw with our employees at every level is right now. Yea, you too could read a book. “Change will be greatly happening in our industry. We
