Description: • Labor Force: Includes all people over the age 16 who are either working or actively looking for work (in thousands). • Unemployment Rate: The number of unemployed as a percentage of the labor force. • Employment: Includes all people over age 16 who are working (in thousands). Analysis: • Unemployment rates have fallen for Wisconsin, Portage, Marathon, and Wood Counties over the last year while increasing nationwide. • Despite falling unemployment rates, the labor force has declined in those counties. This may be the result of demographic changes as more baby boomers reach retirement age. • Additionally, actual employment fell in Portage County and the City of Stevens Point, perhaps because of a rise in retirements.
