alumni news by Inez McGahey bution in the homes here. In the last month and a half we have seen more than twenty persons accept Jesus Christ. The group here has started holding meet ings in a hall that will hold about 80 persons.” George ’61 and Marilyn Pontius, Nagano Ken, Japan: “W e have been on the field for a year and are praising the Lord for His many blessings. . . . After much prayer, we have resigned from the New Life League, under which we came to Japan . . . and are living in Karuizawa- Machi in the mountains and attending the language school operated by TEAM. During our language study, for which we covet your earnest prayers, we shall be engaged in rural evangelism or youth evangelism as the Lord leads. Our burden is for the youth of Japan.” Burt and Glenna Clark ’48, Malaybalay, Bukidnon, Philippines: “We covet your prayers for the couple here at the base who have accepted Christ. W e have been busy with preparations for our linguistic workshop, which will mean so much to all of us.” Edward ’43 and Betty (Pearson ’43) Case, Torrance, California: “W e happily an nounce the successful launching of the Radio Kids Bible Club’s newest satellite. . . . There are forty ‘tracking’ stations in the All-Ecuador Gospel Network in that country. Our fine, young, dedicated engineer, Larry Bentley, . . . would ap preciate your prayers for him as he helps us and continues his engineering studies at college. Pray for the young man who, as .we told you, had been imprisoned in Cuba. He is out of prison, but still in Cuba, as are other dear Christians who need our prayers.” John ’55 and Sheila Tuggy, Lima, Peru: “ John has been working on a preparatory translation of the first three chapters of Acts. Pray for increased language ability for us, for John as he teaches two of the school courses and helps the boys with their school work, . . . and for us that the Lord will daily deliver us from the power of the Evil One.” Violet Lopes ’47, ’60 is working with I.C.E.F. in Portugal: “ The old car broke down . . . several times . . . and now, a new one. Also, our old duplicator, which was very inadequate, has been replaced . . . and now we can run off the 2000 copies of our monthly bulletin for children. Our Portuguese boys and girls are learning to give. . . . Our first missionary offering totaled. $10.50, which has been sent to Korea. Pray for the Day Clubs . . . and for the Biannual European C.E. Confer ence to be held in Lisbon.” Evadene (Johnson ’46) and Harvey ’47 Stranske, who are with Africa Inland Mission, serving in Kapoeta, Sudan, are on furlough, with headquarters in Turlock.

Ruth (Eckert ’23) Paulson sent word of the home-going of her husband, the Rev erend Eric Edwin Paulson, who was at Biola in the “days of Reuben Torrey’s ministry. He often commented on how much the Biblical foundation received there helped in his later seminary and pastoral work. . . . The enclosed check is a memorial gift for him.” Mr. Paulson, who had served pastorates in several Minnesota Presbyterian and Lutheran Free Churches, had recently joined the faculty of Northwestern College, Minne apolis. Mrs. Paulson is a professor at the University of Minnesota. Bettye Sherman ’40 and Robert Zimmer mann: “When we arrived back in Kenya, we expected to be teaching in the Zande- land Bible School . . . but we found that our assignment had been changed. . . . W e are very much pleased to be assigned to Church Advisor work, which Bob was doing most of last term. However, Bettye seldom went with him because he had charge of the station school. Now, we shall work together counseling, encourag ing and helping pastors and evangelists, etc.”

Dick and Barbara (Miller ’54) Gibbs, Sao Paulo, Brazil: “A year ago we had the privilege of helping open a new field for our mission in south Brazil.
