Businesses located in this area can now apply for an alcohol sales license, despite their location close to a school, daycare or church. Some council members believe the approval will also help with expansion and revenue growth. MS NORTHEAST COLLEGE 2023 - Jada Casey of Crossville was chosen as the 2023 Ms. Northeast on Friday, October 14, 2023 at Northeast Alabama Community College in Rainsville. Casey will be awarded a full tuition scholarship to Northeast and she will represent Northeast at community and college events. An off campus panel of judges picked Ms. Northeast based on their interviews with the candidates, communication skills, their poise and presentation, and a vote among students. The other contestants include: Jaden Hallmark of Pisgah, Chole Bell of Valley Head, Abby Hilyer of Fort Payne, Mary Elizabeth Mauney of Fort Payne, and Diana Ortega Mata of Pisgah. CHRISTMAS MARKET - There will be a Christmas Market at the Centre Farmer's Market Pavilion on November 6, 9,13,16, and 20. The event will be from 10 a.m until 2 p.m. each day. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATION - As the popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) continues to rise across the country, an EV charging station is now available at Northeast Alabama Community College. The college has installed a ChargePoint Dual Port Level II charging station in the main parking lot adjacent to Alabama Highway 35. Two ports are available. BRIDGE REPLACEMENT - Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has announced more than $2.25 million in state funding for various road and bridge projects. This includes $250,000 to Sardis City for a bridge replacement on Whitesboro Road over Short Creek. Local funds of $600,000 will also be used for a total project cost of $850,000. The funding is made available through the Annual Grant Program, a program created under the Rebuild Alabama Act. The Rebuild Alabama Act, overwhelmingly passed by the Legislature and signed by Governor Ivey in 2019, requires ALDOT to establish an annual program setting aside $10 million off the top of the state’s share of new gas tax revenue for local projects. This is the third and final round of funding for this fiscal year. News and Announcements
