Alabama Football Back In AP Top 10 The Third Saturday in October showdown between the Crimson Tide and the University of Tennessee was a key SEC battle, as well as one of national significance. Alabama struggled early against the visiting Volunteers, falling behind 13-0. The Tide trailed 20-7 at halftime, before a dominating second half performance helped Alabama pull out a 34-20 victory over the Vols. With the win, Alabama sits in the driver’s seat for the SEC West title at 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the SEC standings. Additionally, the win helped the Crimson Tide climb back into the AP Top 10, as the program moved from No. 11 to No. 9 in the October 22, 2023 Top10 AP Poll. Alabama dominated the statistics over the final 30 minutes of the game on Saturday, in Tuscaloosa, limiting Tennessee to only 129 total yards in the second half. By Brandon K. Pierce The Sports Ledger Deontae Lawson led the Crimson Tide’s defense with 12 tackles. Teammate Jihaad Campbell added 10 tackles and a fumble recovery that he ran back for a touchdown. Overall, the Alabama defense combined for eight tackles for loss, four sacks and four pass breakups. Crimson Tide Quarterback Jalen Milroe completed 14 of his 21 passes for 220 yards and a pair of scores, marking the fifth time in seven starts this season that he has thrown for at least 220 yards and at least two touchdowns. Teammate Jermaine Burton had four catches for 62 yards and a touchdown, while Isaiah Bond also found paydirt, finishing with three catches for 77 yards. Running back Jase McClellan led the ground attack, finishing with 115 of the Crimson Tide’s 138 total rushing yards. Alabama place kicker Will Reichard made a pair of field goal attempts against Tennessee. He has now made 28 consecutive field goals. The last time Reichard missed a field goal came on a 50-yard attempt last year at Tennessee. With his nine points on the night (two field goals and three extra points), Reichard climbed to No. 5 on the NCAA all-time career points list with 495. With five more points, he would become just the fourth player in NCAA history to score 500 or more points in their career. Reichard may get the opportunity in the Crimson Tide’s next contest on November 4 against LSU. With a win against the Tigers, the Crimson Tide can secure its spot in the SEC Championship. The Championship game would most likely be against the currently undefeated and the top ranked Georgia. Georgia was ranked No. 1 in the nation for the 19th consecutive week when the October 22 poll was released. Overall, there are eight undefeated teams in the current AP Top 25. These include No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Florida State, No. 5 Washington, No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 19 Air Force and No. 25 James Madison.
