with them there on the seashore. This is the time He said to Peter words that meant, “ If you love Me, you will feed My lambs.” And thus it was that they returned to the great city of Jerusalem and went right on serving, feeding His lartlbs. The days were not then sad and lonely, for they had a living Saviour, who came to them many times during the forty days after His resurrection. How they must have looked forward to these times of seeing Him and talking with H im ! But finally the time came for the Lord Jesus to go away, just as He had told His friends He would go. One day, at the close o f those-forty days after His resurrection, He met His friends in the city of Jerusalem for the very last time before He went away. Again He talked with them and answered all their questions. Then He led them forth from the great city, down the hill and across the little brook, on toward Bethany until they came to the Mount of Olives. . They had stood on this Mount many times before this day, and now, as before, they no doubt could look back toward the beautiful city and see again the golden dome o f the temple. Or, looking toward the little village of Bethany, they could recall the happy times they had enjoyed together there. Standing with them, and knowing that He had given an answer to each o f their .questions and had satisfied every heart, for oilr Lord Jesus knows jour hearts, He knew ■ that the time had come for Him to go away as He had never gone away before. As He talked there with these friends who loved Him so much, suddenly a won derful and amazing thing happened. The Lord Jesus' was lifted right up from the earth, “and a cloud received him out of their sight.” As He went, they saw His nail-pierced handssstretched over them in ' blessing. With their eyes fixed upon Hims they stood looking up into heaven, watch ing until they could no longer see Him. Then suddenly they realized that two men in white clothing were standing by them. These men were ¡¡God’s messengers, and they said something that made the friends of the Lord Jesus very happy. Their mes sage was that the Lord Jesus is coming 'back again. “ This sairie Jesus . . , they said, “shall so come in like manner [or, “the same way” ] as ye have seen him go into heaven.” The friends returned to Jerusalem with their hearts full of joy and praise, to continue to serve the Lord and to obey His last commands to them. And as they went, they no doubt were remembering some of His precious.last words to them: “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel,” and “lo, I am with you alway.” Today our hearts are made glad, for we, too, know that our Lord is with us where- ever we go. And we know that on some glad day, which we believe will come very soon, o,ur Lord Jesus is coming back again to be seen justj as His friends saw Him on that day when He went “into heaven.” Then we shall “ see him as he is,” and “we shall be like him.” Memory Work for May “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity- o f us all” (Isa. 53:6). “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou are with me; thy rod arid thy staif they comfort me” (Psa. 23 :4). Can you spell your name with Bible, verses? The way to do it is to choose a

As Emile reverently finished reading the last words,, ‘and I will dwell in the house o f the Lord for ever,” there was stillness in the little room. Then quietly a little figure fell on her knees before the mother." “Mother, I should like to go to dwell in the ‘house of the Lord for ever.’ Did Grandfather go there?” asked Marie Jeanne. Her mother nodded silently, then re plied, “ I am sure he did, dear. He said he wanted us to meet him there some day.” Marie Jeanne’s face lighted up as ishe declared joyfully, “ Then I, too, will join him, and with Jesus as my Good Shepherd, I know I shall not want.” Long ago, when our Lord Jesus was here upon earth, there was a group of men who loved Him so 'much that they left their homes and their families and all that they. had, to go with Him wherever He went. These men were called disciples of the Lord Jesus. He taught them, and then He sent them forth to different places to serve Him. They showed their love for Him by doing, day by day, the things that pleased Him. Near the end of His fife here upon earth, the Lord' Je'sris -told thebe friends that some day He would be going away. The thought of having Him leave them must have made them very sad; still He said it would be better for, them if He went. They did not understand at that time just' what He meant, but they learned after wards, , We all know that the time finally came when the Lord Jesus suffered and died on the cross and was laid in a tomb in Joseph’s garden. How unhappy His dis ciple friends were that day as they left His body there in the tomb and went back to their homes! The days must have seemed very long and sad. The upper room where they had last met with Him seemed empty without Him. Then, after three days, the friends of our Lord Jesus heard wonderful news. He was no longer dead, but living! Mary had seen Him! Peter and John were the first of the disciples to run to the tomb and find it empty. And in the evening of. thjs very same day, when the friends of Christ were gathered together, the Lord Jesus Himself came into the room, though the doors were locked. He stood there among them and said: “ Peace be unto you.” Then He showed them His pierced hands and side, and they rejoiced because He was living and was with them again. They all believed except Thomas, who was not with them at this time. One day Thomas, too, saw the Lord and believed, and knew that the Saviour who had died was alive again. Our Lord had told these friends that He would see them in Galilpe. They journeyed to this part o f Palestine«, and there our risen Lord met them and talked with them, and later He appeared to a large group of about five hundred other people, besides. At another time, after some of His friends had fished all night and had caught nothing, the living Lord Jesus appeared to them and told them where they would be able to catch fish, fn the meantime, He had prepared food for them, and when they reached the land, served them and ate * Member o f the faculty o f the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles.
