TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF

I have over a decade of experience in the pharmacy industry, focusing on sterile compounding and home infusion. As a Board- Certified Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician (BCSCPT), Nationally Certified (CPhT) and Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT), I bring both technical expertise and a passion for patient care. Currently, I’m part of the 2024 NHIA Fellowship class, serve on the NHIA Sterile Compounding Practice Committee, and contribute as faculty for their Sterile Compounding Clinic. I am also licensed as a pharmacy technician in multiple states. My work extends to developing SOPs, creating and implementing training programs, and ensuring compliance with industry standards, all while fostering collaboration across multi-state teams. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring the outdoors, hunting for vintage records, traveling with loved ones, and cheering on my favorite hockey team. standards, including USP 797/800 and Joint Commission regulations. I also collaborate closely with pharmacy supervisors to maintain workflow efficiency. My career has allowed me to grow from a retail pharmacy technician to a leader in home infusion, and I’m proud to contribute to the evolution of patient care in this field.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST BECOME INTERESTED IN BECOMING A PHARMACY TECHNICIAN?

I’ve always had a strong desire to help people. Back in 2011, I began my career in retail pharmacy at a small, local pharmacy in my hometown in Maine. Through hands-on training, I quickly excelled in the retail setting. A few years later, after relocating to a new part of the state, I came across a job posting for a 'home infusion pharmacy technician.' I was immediately intrigued and applied for the position. Fast forward 11 years, and I’m still with the same organization, having worked my way up the career ladder and now operating at the top of my licenses.

WHAT WAS THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS YOU TOOK TO GET WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

When I began in retail pharmacy, I obtained my pharmacy technician license and learned on the job through day-to-day operations. I have always been eager to learn, so I spent a lot of time reading and researching the field to deepen my under- standing of the 'hows' and 'whys.' In my next role, I pursued national certification, which involved studying industry stan- dards and best practices to ensure a solid foundation. As my career progressed, I earned my CSPT and BCSCPT cer- tifications, which further advanced my expertise. While I didn’t have formal education in a technician program, my growth has been built on real-time learning, supported by colleagues and mentors in the industry.
