growth as a technician. These associations also foster a sense of community, helping me feel connected to a larger group of professionals who are committed to advancing patient care and improving the pharmacy profession.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR TECHNICIANS WHO FEEL TRAPPED OR IN A RUT IN THEIR CURRENT POSITION?
My advice would be to first take a step back and reflect on what’s making you feel stuck. Sometimes, we get caught up in the daily grind and lose sight of why we started in the field. If you're feeling unchallenged, look for ways to expand your knowledge and skills—whether through certification, attend- ing industry conferences, or seeking out new responsibilities at work. Don’t be afraid to speak with your manager or supervi- sor about opportunities for growth or areas where you’d like to take on more. Networking with other professionals in the industry can also be a great way to gain new insights and dis- cover potential career paths. Most importantly, remember that growth often comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone, so don’t hesitate to explore new opportunities or shift your focus to something that excites you.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD?
I’d just like to emphasize the importance of continual learn- ing and staying adaptable in this field. Pharmacy is always changing, whether it’s new technology, evolving standards, or advancements in patient care, so being open to new ideas and embracing change is key. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to grow in my career and for the support of my col- leagues and mentors along the way. And, of course, I’m excited to continue contributing to the field, whether through training, mentoring, or advocating for best practices. It’s a rewarding profession, and there’s always something new to learn and explore. "Don’t be afraid to ask questions— there’s no such thing as a bad question when you're starting out. Take the time to learn not just the technical skills, but also the 'why' behind the processes."
