bing the floor, and with the other, listened eagerly. Passing along the deck, the Lord led the worker to go and speak to a man, the cook, who was busy in his kitchen. He looked unspeakably sad and it was found that he had just that morning received word o f the sudden death o f his child. He was a Christian man, and the Lord privileged the worker to comfort him with the message o f 1 Thess. 4. He knew the Lord and had found comfort in the fact o f the safety o f his child in the mansions above. We had a few words with the sailors who were resting, left the printed page and stepped over to the other side where 21 Chinese were busy eating. The first tract given them brought the word “Jesus” to all lips, and that was the introduction. Each man was given a number o f selected tracts and New Testaments were left. The head fireman, a Chinese, too, was dealt with, as he could speak English. When I T IS a source o f gratification to the pub lishers o f this magazine to know that it is so highly appreciated by many Chris tian people. It is almost universally 'the fact, that the renewal o f a subscription is accompanied by warmest words of grati tude and praise. W e feel grateful for the evidences o f appreciation and thankful that our efforts have been so wisely directed. Below are a few expressions from letters received. A. G. Sullivan, Chairman Executive Com mittee, Walker County Sunday School Association, Cordova, Ala. : “ I herewith enclose threè subscriptions for T he K ing ' s B usiness . Please start these with the Jan uary number, as I am anxious for them to have the benefit o f -the first lesson by Dr. Evans on the New Testament. Glad of
asked if he were a Christian he looked blank, but after further questioning, said, “ No, nobody told me." Think o f it! With Christian men on board, shut up with those heathen men, no one had told him the Gospel! No one ever came aboard -to try to reach the. Chinese despite his many travels to Christianized shores! An awful condemnation to many lazy harbor mis sionaries. W e saw gladness in his face as a big New Testament was given him. Pray for “ No., 1,” as he is called. It was late and the worker had to leave the ship on which he had labored all the afternoon, yet that single afternoon held much for God. The seed is in every heart and white and Chinese are face to face with the clear, plain message o f the Word which He says will not return unto Him void. [On another page will be found a sample o f the monthly records kept by Mr. Zim merman, indicating a carefully-organized and definite work.—Ed.] this new department. W e are using the Homiletical Helps and Sermon Outlines in our prayer and testimony meetings each Wednesday night at our church, and have had exceptional meetings since we began doing this.” L. Squires. Schenectady, N. Y .: “Just a word to tell you how I appreciate the monthly visits o f your magazine. I simply would not be without it. Every department is most welcome to me, and I enjoy them more than I can tell. One department in particular I especially enjoy—the reports o f the different workers under the head o f ‘Bible Institute Activities.’ It seems that the reports^ o f these different workers always give some helpful and inspiring sug gestions. Most every report gives me an impulse to ‘go and do likewise.’ ” F.
