&/#3&'r#3*&'4 NEW DISTRACTED DRIVING PENALTIES As of January 1st, there are new penalties for distracted driving on Ontario roads. Anyone caught using a hand-held device like a cellphone while driving will face fines of between $500 to $1000 on conviction, along with three demerit points and a three-day suspen- sion of their driver’s license. A second conviction is worth a fine of between $500 to $2000, six demerit points, and a seven-day licence suspension. A third conviction means a fine of between $500 to $3000, six demerit points, and 30-day suspension. Statistics show distracted driving is a factor in 40 per cent of Ontario’s traffic accidents.– Gregg Chamberlain (SNC) is seeking more volunteers to sit on its advisory committees or help with some of the regional conservation group’s projects and programs during the next year. The SNC manages 4,384 square kilometers of forest and wetland habitat in the Eastern Ontario region wit- hin the South Nation River watershed. Besides filling vacancies on advisory committees, the SNC needs volunteers to assist with park and public conserva- tion area cleanup, monitoring programs for fish and wildlife, habitat restoration work, tree planting, and other activities, including education and awareness presentations during public events. SNC volunteer work can help students fill their community hours quotas. Le Détachement de Hawkesbury de la PPO enquête sur un vol de bétail depuis septembre 2018.
