reinstatement of cross country at Gadsden State is great news for student athletes and the college in general. “We are adding another fall sport at Gadsden State; a sport that puts us in a completely different arena than volleyball and basketball,” he said. “We will be reaching athletes who may not have considered Gadsden State but they will now since they have an opportunity to be on our cross country team. I’m very excited about what’s in store for the Gadsden State Cardinals!”

Cancilla said a job posting for the new cross country coach, who will coach both the men’s and women’s teams, will be distributed in November. “We hope that the coach will be able to start working in January 2022 on recruiting and building the roster,” Cancilla said. “They can also spend time building schedules and ordering equipment. They will be more than ready to start the season in the fall," he added. Scholarships will be available to select cross country runners.

“There are a lot of great cross country athletes in our area but there are not a lot of opportunities,” Cancilla said. “Our program will give those athletes the chance to continue running after high school at the collegiate level with a possible scholarship.” Gadsden State will become one of five Alabama community colleges to have both men’s and women’s cross country teams. Other teams include Marion Military Institute, Wallace State Community College, Jefferson State Community College and

Auburn women’s basketball fans will have an opportunity to meet the team, coaches and staff at the inaugural Tip-Off Celebration, set for Sunday, Oct. 10. The event will run from 5-7 p.m. CT at the Anderson- Thorne Tigers Den at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are priced at $25 per person and will include a meal. Harris enters her first season on the Plains after more than a decade of tremendous success as an assistant coach at the highest level, helping lead deep postseason runs at Texas A&M, Mississippi State and Texas. Auburn will play 16 regular-season home games in 2021-22, beginning with the season-opener vs. Georgia Southern on Thursday, Nov. 11. The Tigers return three starters and nine letter-winners from 2020-21. Season tickets for the 2021-22 season will go on sale to the general public later this month, and single-game tickets and mini-plans will be available beginning in October. Alabama Softball Set For Fall Season Alabama softball will gear up for the 2022 season with a series of fall games, including one in Nashville, Tenn., and six home games at Rhoads Stadium. Alabama makes its fall debut with a road doubleheader against Lipscomb at Draper Diamond in Nashville, TN on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. CT. The Crimson Tide will then play six games across three dates at Rhoads Stadium. These include Oct. 16-17 and Oct. 24. Admission for fall games is $5 and tickets will be sold at the gate (cash and credit only). All proceeds from fall softball games benefit the Bama Softball Walk-Off Club. Alabama returns 12 players from last year’s Women’s College World Series squad, including All-American Kaylee Tow and NFCA Pitcher of the Year Montana Fouts (above).
