taking the affirmative. Adjudicator Mr Chris Williams took charge of proceedings by firing a plastic gun and other assorted toys into the audience throughout the debate and distracting the speakers. The staff team of Mr Mike O’Brien, Mr Nick Sutcliffe and Mr Nye Williams eventually proved to be winners over the College team of Patrick Manning, William Bastings and George Yeoman, with plenty of friendly insults traded and only a modest amount of serious debate. Lunchtime was a busy affair with long lines for the food carts,
Man Up did the honours with the shaving and many of the boys had raised substantial pledges, some nearly $1000. This year there was a new House relay. An egg and spoon race was followed by a sack race, then a three-legged race. Rolleston were an easy winner, followed by Flower’s. The last event of the day, the annual dayboys versus boarders rugby game, drew the biggest crowd. The action was fast and furious but the final was won by the dayboys 19-7.

The more creative boys showed their artistic talent with pavement art in the quad. More than 20 boys took part in this year’s Head Shave to raise money for CanTeen. Local snippers
